Innate detect buried is always on and costs no mp.

Innate detect magic has to be concentrated on and costs mp. None of the races who have it use it if they have *any* other use for mp.

Let detect magic races always be detecting magic for free, just like detect buried races detect buried.

Since detect magic is useless, this would add color but not really change game balance.

Discuss.

That would bother the crap out of people who played detect magic races. The extra tags constantly appearing on things would drive most people nuts.

QFT. I can't stand it. Only use it when I'm curious about one specific thing, and then it is immediately off.

As useful as Detect Poison.......

Detect magic is actually a lot more useful than detect poison. Being able to tell who has sanctuary is nothing to be scoffed at.

I think that telling if something is charmed is also useful, as well as sorting the item you just faded apart from the item you didn't fade. Still, this would hardly unbalance those races, I think it would just make them feel more unique, like detect buried makes gnomes and dwarves say 'hmm, there's something buried here...'
