Idea:

When an NPC who tends to have limited items doesn't have them, give them some generic item instead as a placeholder.

For example, if super legendary knight dude doesn't have his limited adamantite, just give him some tanso.

I had a similar idea, but the NPC would be wearing a (translucent) set of the same armor. But it dissolves when he dies.
It would show us what all he holds, without there being multiple sets.
Should the translucent set be locatable? Idk. Might get confusing seeing it.

Are you just trying to get a quick set of armor when you die? Because I think there are many easily obtainable armor sets that work as a back-up when you are trying to reequip.

Already happens

Quote:
<worn as armor> light chain mail (brand new)
<worn as armor> peasant's garb (brand new)
<worn as armor> steel plate mail (brand new)
<worn as armor> wizard's garb (brand new)

L2P?

This idea would be very helpful to those players trying to learn the origins of unique items. Other methods include asking/bugging experienced players and or killing and taking the items from those who have it, then destroying it to see where it respawns. However much I like it though, that would likely take a great deal of effort on the coder's part, so would boil down to a -not worth the effort- category.

It doesn't happen with weapons. Most NPCs with unique weapons are pretty boss when they have them, and wind up being pretty pathetic when they don't.

This is amazingly incorrect.

There is not a single NPC I can think of that is 'difficult' because it has its weapon. They're either hard to kill, or aren't. Sure, maybe a NPC that spawns with a mithril glaive (like the guards in the faction Lumiere leads), or a swashbuckler NPC with weapons is actually going to hit a bit when it has its weapon, but 'pretty boss' is a gross exaggeration.

There are, in fact, numerous high-end 'boss NPCs' who will brutally molest you if they DON'T have their weapon, due to crazy "unarmed" settings, to the point that I tell people not to disarm them.

Yet again, this seems like another thread where Lumiere is advocating that he needs to l2p, but doesn't want to bother, and would rather complain about "not being able to PvE".
