Understanding that this is rule 6. 6. NO BOTS OR CHARACTER AUTOMATION All commands should be sent to the MUD only via a player's direct actions. This focus naturally precludes the usage of client program features for the automation of your character in any way. This can include (but is not limited to) triggering skills to fire in response to any MUD output, or triggering emotes to prevent being logged out for inactivity. Client features such as mapping, highlighting, and other things of the sort that only modify the display of information are more than welcome on the game. Punishment for violation of this will result in deletion of the character. I'm using tintin, which is a pretty cool mud client. I am building a 4-5 line status bar. One of the item I would like to include is the monetary and level status output of worth. I considered pulling this information after a kill. Would that be a violation of this? It's not a command that benefits my character, or keeps me logged in. Just an update to my custom status bar. Obviously, playing by the rules is important to me, so I wanted to clarify what I want to do, versus the intent of this rule. Thanks! |

If it would cause a command to be sent to the mud without being manually performed, then it would violate the rule, yes. Is what you're thinking about firing off the worth command automatically after every kill? If so, then it would be against this rule even though it's not giving a clear mechanical advantage. A "legal" way of doing the same thing would just be to gag the output of the worth command and remember to input the command every now and then (Or maybe have an automatic client-side "reminder" to tell you to use the command every minute or so). The rules have to draw the line somewhere, and they're enforced to that letter. Obviously, some illegal triggers would innately be more "harmful" than others, but you can get deleted for a trigger which says "Elemental is leaving soon" automatically just as much as you can get deleted for a trigger that automatically bashes when someone gets up from prone. |

What Rule 6 boils down to is that if the client is entering any command that gets sent to the game on your behalf, then it is a violation of the rule. You can create custom status bars, but if you want to update it via a command that gets sent to the game, you have to manually enter the command (such as the worth command). You can string together aliases to assist you with this, modify the display of the output you receive with highlights or other features to make it easier to enter the command when you want, and set up any sort of reminder that is client-side, but any command sent to the game has to be sent by you, the player, not by the client in an automated fashion. For instance, a close approximation of what you want would be to have the worth command get fired before you start a fight, which would be almost as effective in the context of a leveling spree where you are involved in a lot of monster killing. You could set up an alias to type worth (which could update your status bar) and also to kill <target>. The display could be sent either to another window or could be delayed to print to your screen after the kill for better readability. You would always be one kill off of your current worth, but if you were close to a target mark for leveling or gold, you could then just manually type worth again after the kill to see if you made it to the mark. That's close to what you want and completely within the rules, as you would not be automating anything off of game output. |

Perfect. Thanks for the clarification. I will make sure any commands sent to the mud are triggered from me, and not from the mud output. |

I'ma necro this thread to point out the option of adjusting your prompt to include your gold, which would save a lot of hassle in this particular case. |

I highly endorse the use of macros (buttons on the screen that you click or buttons on the keyboard that do more than just that button). I cannot tell you how valuable they are. It is so easy when your adrenaline is going to accidentally mistype a name or command... So many missed kills... So many times I could have quaffed word rather than uaff word... |
