Yeah, I know. If I want a different class, just delete/retire and reroll. gg, qq, whatever.

The staff is all gung ho for the rps nowadays, though, and we have these nifty loyalty tokens which seem like the perfect way to be able to earn something like a class reset option.

Pros: reset class + stats and keep current char that you luff for rp reasons. Keep any allies you've gained, stay in your trib/cabal.

Cons: Restart from low level, and quests don't get reset, so it's not like you can do them again. Grinding to GM will likely be harder. Keep any enemies you've gained, get pked into deletion. qq into your cup of coffee about what you're doing with your life and all the dishes piling up in your sink.

So. Yay or nay?

I actually voted no here, and it isn't because I don't like the idea of being able to reroll your class.

It's more the idea that I don't think it's a good option to spend time coding, because it's really something that you shouldn't actually do, as a player. Resetting your class and stats is, as you've mentioned, effectively rerolling, but it wouldn't remove your age, it wouldn't get rid of your enemies, you'd keep practically nothing except your bank account balance, and it would probably prove to just be very frustrating. You're just better off actually re-rolling with another character who is very similar if you really do just want to try another class: And that way you aren't required to delete your current until you want to join a cabal, at which point you can still keep your old character and just get uninducted.

Fair enough. I was also thinking that instead of starting from amateur, it might be nice to start at apprentice instead, or maybe even veteran, but I highly doubt that would be allowed. =/

A big reason I brought this idea here was because I have no idea what it would take to code such a feature, and I was curious to see what someone more knowledgeable would think in those regards.

Well, the coding probably wouldn't be that bad, but unfortunately the action of resetting your class would go against a lot of ingrained things in SK. I was just thinking about this today actually: In SK you choose an alignment at creation and there's no option for deviating from that right along with your race and class. There's certainly room for character development and growth, but it's certainly constrained within those alignment rules. This does unfortunately lend itself to characters that are more static than dynamic, and even moreso, many character arche-types that are required to avoid opposite auras or even encouraged to check auras of characters instead of judging the character based on the actions themselves.

It's funny, but sometimes seems almost "too" simple, as you're perhaps saying. I personally think the environment of SK could be much more interesting if know alignment and detect aura were simply removed outright, and every character was judged based on their race and/or their actions: Mind you, not to get rid of the alignment system overall, but to get rid of all the ways to test someone's alignment and know "for certain," always leaving this possibility that the person you're with is really working for the other side this entire time.

I have a feeling that would eventually devolve to be boring too, but it's an interesting thought.

starting over at level 1 would take care of gear and hoarding issues, if this got implemented, cuz thieves would steal anything that was really high level. but if this is seriously considered by dulrik and the staff, which i doubt it will be...then the reset should also strip all flags - faction membership, religion, paragon, hero, etc.

just like retiring cuz ur basically starting over

I would prefer an option with loyalty tokens to alter alignment slightly.
Possibly allowing even more expensive class/race combos.

Sprite or Minotaur paladin or hellion for instance.

Sprites/Minotaurs resist regimentation and therefore cannot hold the alignments of
principled, dogmatic or aberrant.

Even allowing griffons, elves, d-elves to be the closest grey alignment. (dogmatic elf, griffon/ anarchist d-elf)

This would be fun, though I don't know about elves/deepelves holding grey alignments. May as well roll half-elf.
