Would have to agree with this. Though I usually just stick to the 3 enchants/consecrates between ticks to minimize mana drain.

You can pretty much guarantee that 5 enchants/ consecrating are possible per item. 6 generally requires a lot of luck, and help from a bard. Anything beyond that seems neigh impossible.
Having played a bard, with songs of magic a 6 stack can still be difficult. Which is why I started splitting runes (yeah some of you know who I am immediately after saying that), adding 4/2 or 3/3 with AP/MP is as easy as getting 5 normally. Avoiding that 5 stack hum seems to make things easier.
A full 7 runes is possible with two bards, I have helped do at least a dozen items split like this, only seen a full 7 stack twice I think.
