No stats... superg/mastered everything, never learned siegecraft or crossbow or sling.

Menkh was a character I just sort of threw together. I wanted a neutral rez priest, and I figured Yed needed a priest (didn't know Iychai was thinking the same thing!) and I love starting in Zhenshi. Then I decided I wanted to age death a character, and a human was just right for that. I recommend everyone try to age death a character at least once - it's very different from even a long-lived character.

At the time, I was on an ancient Egyptian kick, so I made her looks based on an ancient Egyptian woman - the make-up, hair, perfume, everything. Viera asked me if Menkh was based on some creepy race in some sci-fi series, and when I googled it, I laughed out loud. Nope.

I will admit I joined the Harlequin for purely OOC reasons - I was curious how it worked - but I ended up loving it. However, I think having an "open" Harlequin is much, much, more fun. Menkh wasn't all that chaotic, but she had a dilemma that I myself face regularly in real life: she liked mischief but hated conflict! This played into all of her relationships with people, but thankfully she never got into too too much trouble. I really hated the OOCness, though. I NEVER told anyone ICly that I was a Harlequin other than the Harlequins themselves, and I very rarely cast spells, and did not get caught with one until yesterday, when I decided to actually use the spells, for fun.

Also, this character made it through my entire pregnancy and birth and first seven months of my child's life... and my grandma even died week before my character died. Very poignant: from ashes to ashes, dust to dust - earth to earth! So even though it's just a game, this character still obviously meant a lot to me.

And yes, her adjective sucked and was very mudsex-y, even though Menkh was not. What I wanted to convey was not really that "omg Menkh is hot" but more like "omg Menkh is totally crazy and vain and meticulous about her appearance." I think "well-groomed" would have been better. The adjective kept me from having an old person desc, which sucks for a character you want to age death!

I will return, but not nearly as active. I just got a big girl 8-5 job, which is a big change from my previous jobs working at home - so I'll want to spend the extra time with my family. I'm sure I can still fit in a character, just not an active reliable one.

I'd estimate that 40-50% of the hours this character logged were AFK or semi-paying attention.

Special thanks:

Rorey, Virsn, Qovoq, Ibej, Pyton, Tuwmodreh, Davvyen, Faedra, Ganoda, Paddah, Iychai, Baalu, Tagg, Turon, Cornelius (even though every time I saw you I wanted to be like YUKON CORNELIUS!), Rodwen (the character!), Kawl, Seago, Nosephthyki (for a lot of reasons but especially the cards RP), Maraigh (he inducted me and then stopped playing forever 30 minutes later), Virsn, Stratis, Atlera, Marik <3, Starroch (we were the most boring couple ever, hoorah!), Terrell for mimicking as me in the epic final strike of Waxing Moon, Ailee, VERET, Gliknok, Wildun, Syrina, Madellina, Tristala, Huuj, Antiira, Kura, Hagrel, Liam, Dufelt, Jaro, Aelavel, Rallatalar, Tironitus, Jaren, Owen and his flying pigs, Estobar, Atlera (Menkh's favorite griffon ever), Terratram, Inaab, Tristala, Raixor, Ohmchi and your stupid fake made-up god, Aujin, Galdor, Aver, and Zala. Most recently, Rhea was a lot of fun - not sure if her player takes grudges OOCly but I enjoyed that little conflict/chaos drama toward the end. Any Harlies or Yeddites that I've missed!!

I'm sure I'm forgetting far too many, and for that I am already sorry in advance. Please feel free to add any stories - my lack of logging and my horrible pregnancy/mommy brain has made much of this character's life a blur. Only two people ever asked me what "Hem Netjer" meant, though! I guess the rest of you googled it or just didn't give a crap.

Back story in next post!

Menkh's mother was a young Zhenshi woman prized for her beauty, supposedly even more "alluring" than Menkh ever could have hoped to be. At age 16 she married a locally-based herbal merchant, and they became pregnant almost immediately. She gave birth to twin girls, which nearly killed her - the healers told her father she would no longer be able to have children, and they would have to abstain from any marital activities for the rest of their lives.

Always wanting a male heir, and without a reason to stay with this prize beauty, her father decided to become a traveling herb merchant and returned home only a few days a year. When he did return, he was distant and cold. This broke her mother's heart - and she turned to zealous religion instead.

Menkh's life, along with her twin sister Nathifa, consisted of praying for hours in Dulrik's temple, several times a day. They prayed when the sun rose, ate breakfast, prayed again, ate lunch, prayed again, had a few hours to study, prayed again, ate dinner, prayed again, and went to bed. Sometimes their mother would wake them in the middle of the night to begin prayers. If Menkh mispronounced a word or somehow angered her mother, she would be disciplined by being forced to pray until her lips cracked and her knees bled. Her sister was much better at the prayers than she was.

Eventually when she was around eleven, her mother let begin self-studies. While her sister visited the monastery to learn about the path to enlightenment, Menkh ran instead to the nearby deserts, while her mom thought she was studying in the library. There she discovered the Elements. The fiery heat from the sun, the sandy earth beneath her, the miraculous water that was life-giving to the dry Zhensh climate, and the wind whipping wildly around her. Nothing else mattered - she focused only on these Elements, and their power. Morals were worthless here in the Zhensh desert.

She wanted to harness the power of the elements to become a warlock, but with such an uneducated upbringing and without magical assistance - she was a failure. So, distraught, she decided to follow the Elements with all her life by doing the only thing she knew how to do: pray.

On the eve of her 16th birthday before she was to begin training in the Zakami Ground, her mother sat down in front of her sister and asked them what they intended to do with their lives. Nathifa announced proudly her intentions to become a paladin in the nearby monastery, devoted to Lord Dulrik, just as her mother was. Menkh announced that she was to become a cleric of Lord Yed, and she might as well have said Thuban or Dabi. Her mother became hysterical and kicked her out of the house, never to speak to her again.

Menkh studied readily, eventually becoming the high priestess of her faith. Eventually she joined the Harlequins, drawn to keep herself amused by simple tricks and other fun that she was denied as a child. She married once in her lifetime to a much older man, who eventually faded into the other realm. Menkh never felt much sadness at this, but she never did enter another romantic relationship again. She made many friends, a few enemies (man, you people must have been bored!) but overall enjoyed her life very much.

In regard to her looks - in her mother's house, she was not allowed to wear make up or colorful clothes, and instead wore a coarse sackcloth kimono and was forced to keep her hair short. She was not allowed to seem attractive to others in any way whatsoever, because her beauty had only brought her pain and suffering. Menkh, being extraordinarily vain, was resentful of this more than any of the other things she had gone through with her mother. She made it her top priority, other than her faith, to have an extremely alluring apperance at all times. She kept her hair in elaborate plaited braids, wore rogue and charcoal to line her eyes, and rubbed oils daily into her skin to keep it young and supple.

Eventually, her age caught up with her despite her meticulous methods, and she asked a shaman who called himself an acupuncturist performed an elaborate procedure to reverse wrinkles - permanently. Her face was unnaturally tight (as an aside, I don't know whose character this was, but this "SK Botox method" really helped Menkh out!) She also began dying her hair with inks and oils. She was obsessed to the day that she died.

I wear rogue every day. . . . (?) :P

I don't really get the whole Rhea thing, and you might have made things very sticky for a new player to the mud. Why pick on someone who's just getting her footing?

Nooooo! It was supposed to be 93!! Dammit.

I'm glad you got such nice closure with her, especially with all of those big life milestones along the way.

And I didn't ask, I just googled Hem Netjer. :)

I didn't know she was new. It was totally RP-based, and I was shocked by her angry reaction even initially, then I apologized repeatedly to the character and tried to fix things with her (and I had nothing to do with the Zellidon thing) and she totally dismissed me every time. I was very polite about it and polite to her in general. Just trying to create RP. I don't have any logs, but it was really really lame "conflict." I think the player blew it out of proportion.

ETA

To the player of Rhea - please realize I was never trying to make you feel bad! I was just trying to RP! I love your character! Please continue playing the game and don't let grumpy old characters like Menkh bring you down!

I liked Menkh over all. Always willing to go do random stuff when I was bored. Your back story for her is really interesting, I wish i had gotten to know it in game as well. And I thank you a lot for letting me do a reading for her it was a lot of fun. Also remember the time I randomly dragged you to Sehlys and then got myself drowned and you had to stay on to rezz me :P thanks for that. I had actually forgotten about the relationship with Starroch, that was hilarious to me and Thyki.

Thyki thought she was ridiculous with her obsession with appearances and thought she ought to embrace her aging gracefully instead of trying to look younger which only made her look more silly. But Thyki did enjoy her company as well.

You do tend to create a lot of drama, but that can be fun too. So good luck with stuff and hope to see you around again in game.

Thyki

As the player of Rhea, I found the drama unwarranted and really tried to avoid it all at the end. Hence avoiding Menkh at all times. For a PAR I found it lacking tac to spam tell Rhea, when they barely knew one another and lecture her and call her some names and then leave the realms abruptly so Rhea couldn't respond.

If apologizing is trying to summon her, spread lies about her and have anyone and everyone contact her... I must have missed the real intention behind all that.

I will say congrats on an age death, I hope to one day do that as well.

From what I saw of Rhea, she blew it to perfect proportions. She was completely reasonable given the circumstances.

Anyway, jennbo, you and I have a long history of ups and downs. I didn't go out of my way to spend any time with Menkh, but I was sure to at least meet her and speak to her when she was around. She seemed alright from the brief glimpse I got of her. Thanks for mentoring my priest. :)
