You can always refuse, and even go quiet mode if you REALLY have to. I don't think there are that many people out there that will continually keep sending tells to you if you tell them you're busy and to shove off.

You know, some people find responsibility fun... Being a HF let's you guide your religion and to start RPs and stuff. It's been far too long since a religion stepped up to the plate and started something -big-.

Excuse my vulgarity, but that's [REDACTED]. Priests are probably one of the most likely classes to escape combat alive.
1. They're second row. In my experience second row chars escape a losing battle at least 75% of the time.
2. Either they're able to hold sanc on themselves (sometimes likely) or they brandish a sanc stave (very likely) and since they never drop sanc, they take significantly less damage in combat.
3. They can enchant their own eq, so they're practically immune to spells.
4. Quaff word. As a priest, never ever cast WoR. You should always keep a flask on you since there IS a time difference and it could get you killed. Brewing one word flask isn't that hard. Only reason you might not is if you have a shitload of MR.
5. With access to staves, they probably brandished a good deal of defensive spells for the group (armor, shield, bless, etc.) making themselves even stronger.

That is like shamans complaining that SA sucks because they have to hold it. MV isn't a high concentration spell, from what i remember. There are staves out there if you are really lazy, but hold it yourself for maximum benefit. Besides- why are you getting hit by physical attacks in the first place? Something is clearly wrong if you need to worry about that.

Uh. This is universal. You carry anything valuable, and people will come after you. It doesn't matter if you're a bard or a necro.

There is a time for offensive spells and a time for defensive spells. Keep in mind casting offensive spells breaks your sanctuary, making you more vulnerable. Besides, priests have the best offensive damage spell IMO in the game. I'd rather be hit by FoD than grey-aura harm with a set of enchanted armor because harm would do significantly more damage. I've told priests to harm plenty of times. In crucial combat, would I ask them to? No. Dropping sanc makes them more vulnerable to a lot of things (especially reaching weapons and dirt kick) and heal can usually do just as well. Just be like Frollith, who goes and PKs on his own with great success (or at least a very low death rate).
Side note: IMO, priests are the least likely class to die in any situation. Sanc+shield block + flight (from staves) behind a pet + able to enchant + loads of defensive spells that can be both casted and brandished make them insanely tough to kill. Paladins can be considered a close runner up, but they can't enchant their eq (and thus can't have perfection on their own time), are usually riding their mount (atyrros), and can't have flight on a regular basis unless they ride their mount or get flasks/scripted items. I'm not saying that paladins can't get flight, but that they usually don't bother as opposed to casters who always have flight staves.
The high survivability rate is something to take in mind when debating whether to play a priest as well. If you don't like dying, play a priest.
