Adder, I wrote the post in jest, it was a polar opposite of Frollith's. I wasn't looking for a fight. :)

I have played my GM priest for months. The time that a priest spends resurrecting, summoning, gating, especially enchanting and brewing -- more often than not for others than self, all adds up. Spamming 'info' in PvP in order to keep others alive, etc.

Last I checked a priest who consistantly blew others off for resurrecting requests got called names. Katia, anyone? Since when does it matter which row the priest is when it comes to ranged attacks? No priest brews one vial at a time, either... more like fifty. :)

It is easy to list reasons for playing a priest, but try one yourself, then you will know. My cheers goto Frollith who is still kicking it after all this time.

It may have been in jest, but others who read it and were debating whether or not to play a priest could be turned off by your comments, so I went and took the time to point out my opinion on your complaints.

And the time I spend in collecting adamantite/mithril for others, mindlessly tanking random NPCs in the outer planes, buying 10000 detect invis potions or a billion small porcelain flasks to be brewed, the hours i hunt without finding anybody, haggling large quantities of random objects for others, all that doesn't add up? Most chars are going to do [REDACTED] for other people. That's just part of the game. The stuff that I do for others might not be as time intensive as the things that priests do, but it's still boring. At least you can go afk while brewing. sta;get flask container;wear flask;brew heal;rem flask;put flask 2.container;sleep. If I go afk on an outer planes trip, even with somebody else leading, people usually end up dying. I also find enchanting to be fairly relaxing and fun, even when i enchanted for others.

"Consistantly"? You're either busy or you're not. If you're not busy, you should make the effort to do rez rp with them. If they pass, rez. If they don't, go away. It's that simple. If you actually dislike rezzing people even when you're not busy, then maybe you're playing the wrong character and should try another. Just do it Vaodan style- c res XXX;wave XXX;east.

Nobody uses crossbows or bows in face to face combat. And, as I mentioned, you have GM sanctuary 24/7 which cuts all damage in half. Magical vestments will also make those arrows into a joke.

If you're thinking polearms, that's when your tank is supposed to rescue you.

Once again, I wasn't looking for a fight. :)

I had no doubt you would in turn list your daily activities to counter the list of duties of a priest, Adder. I didn't want to bring this up in the first place, because this broadens the discussion to commitments one has, and choose to have no matter what profession one is in SK.

However, to state the obvious, it is not the same seeing, hearing, constantly being with a priest, than when one is a priest. If anything, my first post was in jest, and second was to point out the possibilities of various activities a priest could end up partaking regularly.

By all means, after reading about the class's pros and cons, and it is still something one considers worth going for, in spirit of this thread, make a priest!

A requirment for a good priest is patience. You will no longer be playing for yourself and if you can't handle the constant tells then you wont handle being a priest. While being a priest can be mundain with brewing and rezes and being a healing [REDACTED] you will rarely ever have a dull moment.

As far as the cloth armor goes I really dont see it as much of a problem since you can get energy and enchant it to high hell. As far as PK goes, if your a good priest you rarely get pked. If your an even better priest PK dosent matter "Go ahead take my stuff, I'll get it back in a day". That statement is very very true. Everyone wants to make their rez [REDACTED] happy.

While any race can be a priest not every player can be, if you have a low attention span or you are slow with responding to situations then you have no buisness playing an effective priest. A priests commands can be limited to... info, cast heal <target>, c sanc <target>, c res <target>, flee, brew, and word of recall. These are the most commonly used commands.

The benifits are that you are never bored, theres always something to do and your character wont sit around doing nothing between brewing and rezing. You are also an instant rp gravitational force.

I had a blast playing Inidil, I played her for nearly 3 years non stop and untill the end there was never a dull moment. She was by far my favorite character and I doubt anything will ever change that.

Piffle. Priests are worthwhile because they're fun, not because they have some imaginary obligation to heal/brew/enchant/rez on demand.

Granted, if you don't like healing or any of the other priest activities, you're best off with something else. But you have the freedom to pick and choose what you want to do.

I was interested in IC religious conversations with my last priest. Roleplaying rez requests was fun, and well worth spending a little mana. I hated enchanting, though, so I did it only for friends and charged 1 obsidian per mana recharge. People didn't bother me much with enchant requests once that was known. Problem solved!

I really enjoy my Priestess, not only for the RP but the challenge of trying to figure out who deserves the prayers. But I also think that it is important to maintain a balance, and not always help those who ask- everyone has an off day. There are occassions when Safia will quiet her mind to get some peace. Truthfully, if you can't hand the CONSTANT tells and voices, then dont do it. There are lulls but you will find they are short and will be broken by a trail of people asking for life.

But truly, Priests are in short supply, especially those of dark and grey. As I know how many requests I get from Darkies.

As for PKing a Priest (glares at Enviir and Zadex), I personally think it is hilarious, as you get to call in all your favors to those you have helped.

A suggestion for new priests, don't put it in your title until you can raise dead or res, or you will be hounded.
