They do let Hellions, Paladins, and Priests choose a religion in the halls of creation, you just have to work to get INTO the religion after that.

I agree. Theres a lot of RP to be had, and picking in the halls of creation just eliminates all that. I've had a few hellions who were going for a certain one but through RP chose a different one.

The priest population seems to be rebounding after being put on the endangered list for a while. Thanks probably go to this thread.

Now I'm going to sit down and make a priest, one that promises ressurections then logs off before they happen, One that casts mass heal when only one person gets hit, one that won't brew or enchant for people, One that casts spear of faith while people are dropping dead, one with a 90 wimpy in the wastelands, the greatest priest of all time! Yay!

Inspired by the general lack of priests right now (had trouble getting a rez recently, anyone?), and the rather sad post on current HFs, allow me to make a plea: If you are creating a new character, you should strongly consider making a priest.

Now I made a priest a while back, Nahimana, an unprincipled priest of Sadal. And it really helped stir me from my fountain RP-ness, and even though the character was a peaceful one who did not engage in battle often (except to save the Blade of Zynor or some global RP thing), I really enjoyed her, but it just seemed dull after awhile. Now this is my fault, and I'm not trying to deter anyone from making a priest..because it's definitely one of the good classes out there.

The only thing that bothered me is the stale routine of rezzing all the time, and the pointlessness of the extreme spells in a grey character following a grey religion. It was a good, dull character for when I just wanted to relax on SK.

I just think a lot of grey religions need good priests, but I'm not sure that there is any appeal in it. The RP is good, especially for religions like Nashira and Sadal and Mira.

I didn't actually read the five pages of posts, so if I've repeated anything that anyone's said, I'm sorry.

One reason not to make a priest, though, is because you will never get PAR as long as Frollith is alive.

With all respect, Jennbo, I think part of your trouble was that Nahimana was a bit too peaceful.

I've seen gray-aura priests of amoral religions that were still determined advocates of their god - or what they thought their god was. Roleplaying religion is such a big part of a priest's RP, that it helps to have some sharp edges there. This not only adds roleplay to all those resurrections a priest does, it also reduces their number since you'll make philosophical enemies you don't want to help.

For what it's worth, my favorite trick to come up with a theology is to take a god's areas of interest, prioritize one, and give that trait an unusual but defendable definition. Then I fit in the other divine areas of interest to match, though still staying true to the god's alignment.

I'll agree that gray priests have less raw PK power than either extreme. This can and should be balanced by the fact that, as a graybie, you can befriend everybody. Get your new-found friends to scribe powerful scrolls and gather phat lewt for you.

RP-wise, you should be able to find plenty of ways to keep yourself occupied, and you don't always have to play rez-monkey. Don't feel ashamed to deny people your prayers when you're busy doing something, or else you'll go crazy.

Pfft. My priest might give out 2 rezzes a day. My OLD priest gave out 10 or so a day, but thats cuz i was the only darkie priest. Now I just ignore requests, or tell 'em to ask someone else. Or my favorite line, "No, because your ugly/smell"
