Post subject:  Regarding Imm deletion

In reading through the Afterlife and other forums, I stumbled upon the concept of imm deletion several times. I tried looking for guidelines on the matter in the helpfiles, but haven't been able to find anything on it so far.

I wondered if someone could explain what exactly constitutes an imm deletion? Is it an IC or an OOC act? As in, is it the god that 'permanently kills' said character, or is it the admin behind the god that does the deleting? Is it done purely for IC reasons, purely for OOC reasons, or a bit of both?

The reason I ask is I'm trying to figure out the roleplay guidelines on the matter. There seems to be a lot of scorn on here towards characters setting themselves up for trouble/being unfavoured by their god(s) - which is a little new to me, since I always thought it a vital part of religious roleplay. IC punishments, disfavors, taking away privileges - all that I can understand. But I guess I've just always seen a deletion as a strictly OOC decision...

How should one roleplay for example a friend's permanent deletion? Is it treated as an IC godly act? Or is it ascribed to murder/suicide/one of the ususal 'excuses' used when a character deletes?

(hope this is in the right forum, despite the question's newbieness)

Prolly not mentioned much in Afterlife, as most people don't exactly brag about having gotten their character deleted.

When a character is deleted for a breach of the rules, it is entirely an ooc action. Even when a penalty for rule-breaking doesn't go as far as deletion (but is more along the lines of an XP penalty, levels being taken, forced adjective changes, loss of skills or spells, etc.), it is still entirely ooc. Those who try to take things like this and make up stories about how a particular god did this to them ICly run the risk of having that god then face them down ICly and doing worse to them at that point. No holds barred, in other words.

There is generally not scorn for those who inadvertently find themselves in trouble with their god ICly. It happens, after all. Characters are human (or mortal, shall we say) with mortal frailties and are not perfect, and the RP that can be derived from such an instance is often some of the best in the game.

The scorn generally comes in for those players who are known to be unable to play a character without having said character fail in their duties to their god and to do so in a spectacular fashion. (They've just done it so many times that it's come to be expected.) That's all.

Generally, you can RP it as if they're simply...gone. How would you RP it if they just never logged on again and you didn't know why? *shrugs* "He went missing a while back." "I've not seen him in a while." "I wonder where so-and-so disappeared to."

In the only case I know of, my own roleplay was that they had been utterly destroyed by the gods for defying them. Since the gods are mysterious, it isn't known to my character which ones did so, or the circumstances under which that happened.

But the roleplay leading up to the action in that case seemed to fit that explanation.

Leads to a healthy respect for the gods, too. I know my character is nervous about offending them ICly even more now.

You should be around when a new god appears in the game.

Sadly, I've found that some immortals will perform an action out of character, and then take it IC.

There are many actions that an immortal may have to take in their day-to-day Out-of-character duties that may require or result in some kind of In-Character explanation. The most simple example of all is accidentally being visible when you go to a room where some mortals happen to be... should we just say 'ooc: sorry - building.' and ruin everyone's roleplay? I believe bugtussle had some quite smooth and witty IC responses for just such a situation (playing a god with ADHD disorder helped, too). I won't retell them, but rather leave them for any mortal lucky enough to bump into us one day. :)

I wish I was referring to something so innocent, Alshain.

I still wonder how to handle deletions in-character, particularly with how to deal with information regarding the vanished party. It is interesting to reflect on how malleable one's legacy truly becomes.

How about RP the inexplicably vanished? This alone can suffice the RP.
