Post subject:  Building things after player request

Well, I was wondering what is the exact policy for this kind of things?

I have been player for quite some time and I have witnessed several incidents concerning the matter. I only saw things getting done after some imm initiative. Is it really on the hand of the imm that is taking care of some specific region ? His good mood and desire to built ?

It is written somewhere that immortals will be easier to publish you a book but still, I have witnessed otherwise.

And I ask, since there is sufficient rp, for anything, why not build it after a request? Especially when this is not large, but something small.

Lastly, I would like to add my point of view which is that small requests should get done and be given more attention than other things. And I do not speak for l33t item requests.

To my mind, the best additions both further an in-game plot line and advance SK as a MUD. Alternatively, if someone's just asking for a residence or some such, I can't see why that should be anybody's priority.

Even then, immortals are volunteers. If a project doesn't catch their interest, why should they spend their limited time on it? I'd suggest modifying the project so that the imm counts it worthwhile, or so that control over it passes to another imm who might be more willing.

Yo the Imms are good about this, so long as your idea doesn't blow. I have RP'd publishing a book and rebuilding 3 rooms and when I finally got on a time where there at least was an Imm available, they jumped to rp boff(both) out right away. This was very recently and of course it was Sadal/yenko who is the bomb and always has been as far as interacting positively with the playerbase.

Glad we can always rely on you to not answer questions put in the forums, Alshain. Maybe it'd be better if you kept your posting restricted to the 'deletions' thread.

The chances of an imm putting a mortal-written/suggested area into the game are heightened if

a) it agrees with their view of the game, and the way it should be
b) it is completely written already
c) you make no attempt to claim ownership
d) it is sensible and in-theme
e) it has a valid use in the game
f) you are willing to take 'suggestions' about how it could be 'improved'
g) the immortal you are asking is not Alshain

I mentioned G specifically because unless you're in Alshain's little 'in-group', which consists of, to my knowledge, Abane and Tatalion, he's got no interest in doing anything for you. Having tried to get him to do things in the past, I can assure everybody that it's not worth the effort.

That said, if you're polite, and you paint your image in an appealing way, most imms will be happy to at least hear you out. I do suggest asking if they're willing to take a look at your ideas before you go and build a 1000 room area though.

Make sure you have the proper admin for the kingdom you want building to be done in. The kingdom director of menegroth won't lift a finger for you if you want something done in taslamar. ect.

I've found that if you want to do something that involves furthering plots or creating rp, imms are more likely to build for you. IE, the imperial invasion of teron, things of that nature.

Remember, they do have a lot of other assignments already on them. So it could take a bit of time and sometimes they don't always get finished. So be patient.

own had a pretty good list from what I've seen so I won't elaborate any further.

PS some imms, like wert, will want payment for things built. So be prepared to have several hundred obsidian collected.

I am still waiting for a statue near everclear, for which i payed 30 obsidian in 2002. I had discussed it with Sargas at the time, i send desc and all, he agreed, and then he told me to pay the NPC Paladins in there the coin. I did it, logged it and send the snip through PM.

That was in late 2002, Then Sargas dissapeared and reappeared and dissapeared and so on. It's late 2005 now, still no statue...

Is it possible i get a refund? :o  :-?

The reappeared Sargas v3.0 is not the 2002 Sargas v2.0 that had influence over Taslamar.
2002 Sargas v2.0 = tatalion. You probably caught him for that statue when he was falling into inactivity and he never was able to get to it before resigning.

Jardek's list is a fairly accurate one. Other things to consider, though, are that specific immortal's workload. Some imms have (had) a tendency to take on so many projects that they cannot get them finished and leave unfinished crap lying everywhere (ie- Yed/Sargas v3.0). Some imms spend most of their time engaged in non-building activity (ie- Alshain). Some imms simply get far too many (and often unreasonable) requests to ever be able to implement them all (ie- Zavijah). Some imms are (were) much faster builders than others (ie- Nashira/Salak). Some imms fully intend to get certain things done but are snatched away by untimely IRL issues (ie- Algorab & most every other imm who has left the pantheon).

Ultimately, even the imms we think are f**ktards do at least have good intentions, and really do want to contribute and provide an environment that the players enjoy. Often it's just not as easy as it looks (though every now and then, the imm really is a f**ktard).

Go for the new imms, they're always idealistic and eager to help

Another thing to add is getting things added that have to deal with your religion. You should run it past your patron and the KD (if they are not the same). I've had good success of getting nearly every book I've written into the game as long as it is clear, concise, free of spelling errors and on topic. This is one way for a character to leave a lasting mark as nearly all the books have the author's name mentioned somewhere in them.

At times, it can even gain you favor in your religion if the text is acceptable for such.
