I was silly enough not to save everything at the time, but heres what happened while I was flying over Teron. (And this was suddenly, without warning/anyone casting spells)

You slowly float to the ground.
You plummet to your death!
Your equipment is scattered beyond retrieval.
You lose your concentration on death shroud.
Your shroud fades away.
You lose your concentration on detect aura.
You can no longer see auras.
You lose your concentration on detect hidden.
You feel less aware of your surroundings.
You lose your concentration on detect invis.
You no longer see invisible objects.
You have been KILLED!!

You rub the dirt out of your eyes.
Your mount is now rested and recharged.
Your spirit feels more settled.
Your mount is now rested and recharged.

Your rage ebbs.
You slowly float to the ground.
You rub the dirt out of your eyes.
You can see again.
You feel weaker.
Your true seeing fades.
You rub the dirt out of your eyes.
Your skin feels soft again.
You feel weaker.

You no longer feel stealthy.
Your true seeing fades.
Your undead follower falls to the ground.
You feel able to create another spirit doll.
Your spirit companions leave you.

You feel able to conjure another elemental.
You rub the dirt out of your eyes.

You feel able to conjure another elemental.
You are no longer invisible.
You feel less protected.

Your undead follower falls to the ground.
You feel less protected.

Your force shield shimmers then fades away.
Your spell ward dissolves.
The white aura around your body fades.

You feel able to conjure another elemental.

You feel less righteous.
Your true seeing fades.
Your skin feels soft again.
You can see again.
You feel brighter.

You can move again.

Yes, it's a bug. But it doesn't affect your character in any way other than seeing those excess messages. It's not high on my list.

You sure got dirt kicked a lot.

After further consideration, I am pretty sure I had already fixed this for the situation where the fly spell wears off naturally. Teron is not an anti-magic area, but even if it was, I thought I fixed it for that already too. I'd have to know exactly how you lost the spell to even try to fix it.

if as you said, Dulrik, that the fly spell naturally wears off even if i am expending energy to keep it going, then i guess that might have been what happened... however, i thought that such spells would stay until the caster releases it --or maybe it was from that one stave, which in that case would have been foolishness on my part =/

Correct. After dying from a fall like that (not the normal 20% damage from cancelled flight) your things are irrecoverable. You have to go back to the sources.

This has pissed me off more then once when i've died flying over exile, and tried to figure out why my indestructible energy armor doesn't land in the street somewhere :-/

It floats away on the breeze to Neverland.
