It's not a newbie bonus, it's a bug. You may indeed be killing the NPCs 1/3 faster but you would also only be getting 1/3 the XP for each one. So, no actual bonus in levelling speed. It still needs to be fixed because it's not consistant with standard attack behavior.

You have claimed in the past that new creations recieve a leveling bonus. Though granted, you never exactly displayed what it was. If its having free heals, blesses and armor from healer NPCs in noob areas. Or a hidden slight boost to hit and damage, or tempolarrily decreased level caps.

And for the aim only chest bug, might look in numbers like less xp. But someway it feels like you xp significantly faster with it, then creating a character, logging out and on and trying to level without that bug.

I know you won't go into numbers and all but I can't see how you can get only 1/3 the xp if you only hit the chest. From what I see if a NPC has 100 hit points, and everypoint of damage you do gets you 1 pt of xp and you need 1000 xp to level then both ways of killing the NPC should give you 100 xps. Since no matter how you slice it, aiming at feet face or arms. To kill the NPC you have to do a total of 100 damage to knock of each point of its hp. And the faster you can knock them 100 hps off and convert them to xp, the faster you can get to the next...and in the end train your next level.

I'm blanking on any time that I would have claimed that there is a newbie bonus. I'm pretty sure that whatever lead you to believe that was misinterpreted. To be perfectly clear, there should be absolutely no difference between a just created character versus one who has logged out and logged back in.

Unfortunately, that means a torturous way to go for newbs, especially certain classes. Shame, too.

Upper mid and lower all have 100 hps EACH in your case. You hit the legs for 50 pts, then hits the head for 100 pts gives you an XP outcome of 150. In your example Trag.

then again...I could be totally wrong....

Somehow I do remember Dulrik claiming of a Newbie bless like bonus(not xp ) but something like a propability to hit/get hit. of course I cannot dig up that post, still I think it was stated pretty clearly of a newbie bless bonus that expires with the first logoff.

There was a time when rumours of extra bonus to damage were around. D actually said there was NO code for such a bonus other than the healer priest casting spells. At the time a sprite could also do over expected max damage with thrown weapons and would get a message something like its not fair to cheat.
