Something the past several days I've noticed is I'll be playing along, and suddenly the text is overlapping itself in odd places on the screen instead of down like it is suppose to. Sometimes just tossing the game into vt mode and off again clears it.

I don't use vt/vtextend mode.
My scroll in game is set to 24.
I am using zmud 7.21 and have been for awhile without issue.

Side note: not seeming to have this issue with my alt, least that I've noticed yet.

It's something that can occur with zMUD and other clients from time to time. I've had this problem for ages but since it's so easy to clear up I just never worried about it.

Just use the fix you've already invented to deal with it. It sounds like a client issue and not a mud issue anyway. I've never had that problem, but I don't use zmud.

Using vtextend mode with my zMUD, I haven't found that problem, however I cannot have a running log of things as the vt destroys coherency with the various lines showing up "where ever they darn well please".

If you don't use VT or VT EXTEND, go into zMUD's settings and turn off VT102 emulation, and the cursor will never 'move around' and stuff up your logs & text output. Of course, the VT and VT EXTEND options won't work, but that's why there's a caveat on this suggestion. :)
