Wortsenawl, I think the way it works is, a mentor accumulates mentor points from the amount of experience the mentee spends at the time.

For instance, if you are constantly mentoring languages, or the real basics such as weapon skills, you could mentor lots of students and get very little.

The big bucks seem to brew from the apprentice skills of the class. With this said, willing mentors could do more than just teaching skills in SK.

I have had plenty of people who I have mentored (not just skills)... for example, I have had several squires. I wasn't complaining, just saying I have no idea how it works.

Is there any way more openness can be applied to the system? Nothing is more frustrating as a player than not knowing whether you are actually making any progress toward your goal.

I trust that you've reviewed the code for mentor points, but a few things do not make sense:

1) you've said that mentor points don't expire on resets, so you can slowly build up your points and then cash them in like the XP system

2) The how is it that long lived characters who mentor squires or young inductees to religions do not eventually get the points?

From my experience, I got a point two months in a row before ever reaching GM, yet I have not gotten one in the 40+ years since then.

Wortsenawl, being nearly age-dead and mentoring several squires throughout his career of 70+ IC years never having received a point?

Elriorith never gaining a point? I know my character personally learned all of the initiate level spells and improved a lot of lower ones from her, as I am sure many of the characters she invested have.

A progress bar would make it a lot easier to understand how these things can happen...

Malhavoc whos been around for two years and mentor for 18 months still hasnt gotten one. And once he hit mentor he trained every scout in the world. And even recently he has picked up the teaching bow again. Trained at least two new scouts all the way up. Nothing. Can we get at least an idea of Prerequisites?

Perhaps the quality of the skill comes into play. I don't mentor as much as I used to, but I still get points here and there. I did mentor more though when my character was younger and I seemed to get less - then again, my skills/spells weren't as good.

*shrug*. Just an idea...

I don't provide any information about this because I don't want people gaming the system. The mentor system provides an incentive for experienced players to help coach new players into the game. But the ultimate reward is to have new players for everyone to interact with and keep the game alive.

I now know that it is based when a reboot happens. Could it instead work like its own xp system but you can only get at max 1 mentor pt/month?

Umm... that's exactly how it works.

Fepel, he is asking that it is given when you attain enough points, irrespective of the reboot.
