I'm curious as to why water breathing does not have a "You utter the words blahblah" echo. Is this a bug or a special feature? It doesn't make sense to me that it would be a feature. Is this suppose to happen or no? Here's what it looks like to cast this spell:

Code:
c 'water breathing'
You start to concentrate.

[HP:100%] [MP: 58%] [PE:100%] [Gold: 1 platinum, 2 silver, 9 copper]

You can now breathe water.

[HP:100%] [MP: 56%] [PE:100%] [Gold: 1 platinum, 2 silver, 9 copper]
c 'water breathing'
You start to concentrate.

[HP:100%] [MP: 56%] [PE:100%] [Gold: 1 platinum, 2 silver, 9 copper]

You have become better at water breathing!

[HP:100%] [MP: 55%] [PE:100%] [Gold: 1 platinum, 2 silver, 9 copper]
c 'water breathing'
You start to concentrate.

[HP:100%] [MP: 55%] [PE:100%] [Gold: 1 platinum, 2 silver, 9 copper]

You failed.

[HP:100%] [MP: 54%] [PE:100%] [Gold: 1 platinum, 2 silver, 9 copper]

Short version: It is actually a feature, and it's like that so that you can cast it while drowning.

All spells besides airy water and water breathing have the 'you start to concentrate' echo on them when you start casting.

In addition, if you try to cast any spell besides those two while drowning, you get a "your mouth is too full of water to cast!" message. Pretty bad news: Water breathing and airy water, however, can be cast while drowning, which is a big plus considering that that's when you need them most. All other spells, like teleport or word of recall, for example, can't be cast while drowning.

Basically, they're silent spells. There are some other spells which show the "you start to concentrate' message to yourself, but not to others (know alignment, ventriloquate, etc.), but they're in a different class than water breathing and airy water.

What's with the digs. Give the man some credit. That you think he 'spends too much time playing SK' speaks to some other insecurity than his...

Great explanation, Edoras.

I do play too much, actually: But it looks even worse because I also enjoy finding out the sources of strange quirks in the game.

For example, ever noticed that sometimes when you start a fight with the kill command that you'll only get one attack, and other times you'll get your full complement of attacks? That's actually determined by who logged in first, or in the case of NPCs, whether they spawned before or after your login time. If the NPC spawned before you logged in, the kill command will only give you one attack. If they spawned afterwards, you'll get as many attacks as you would have in a normal combat round.

Of course I still don't know, for example, where to find a swirly marble orb.
