Code:
> back calm
A calm male elf yells 'Ft`qer! @ vghsd-ibhqfe efn`kd cfdq-dmg ht sszhmf un ltsefq nd!'
A calm male elf wakes up, and clambers to his feet.
A calm male elf makes a strange sound as you stab him in the back!

If this was a deliberate change, it's really, really stupid. Everyone is super-ninja-double-alertness pirate-barbarians? Not only does it make no sense from every logical point of view, but there also was no precedence to change this.

I agree... Especially seeing as how you can do it if the person is sleeping on his own accord, just not if he is affected by the spell...

This is not recent. This was doable at least a year and a half ago if I remember correctly. I believe I put something to sleep with Ajon, my centaur priest, and backstabbed it back then.

The "bug" is that they wake up just before the backstab resolves, the log snippet is from the point of view of a rogue.

As far as I know, it's always been that way. I've never heard it referred to as a bug until now. What bothers me is when people start playing a class and see something they don't expect and assume it was a malicious code change on my part.

While I havent run into it, I also think it should be changed. If you're stabbed in the back while sleeping, your first move isn't going to be stand/yell their name/adj/dead.

Being attacked wakes you up. Being the subject of a PK attempt causes you to yell for help (unless you disabled it in your auto options). Neither of these are bugs. Seeing 'X clambers to his feet' just as you backstab them is a bit strange, but not all that important.

I think I know what changed.

I do not know exactly when this 'change' took place, but some years ago, when diseased and poisoned, we could rest and/or sleep it off. Because the hit points regenerated negated the hit points taken off.

When I started playing my most recent character, which was four months ago, I discovered that it is no longer possible. The code makes us automatically 'sit' (or 'stand') momentarily during the ticks.

Therefore the plague/poison eventually kills if aid was not sought. The reaction of that victim seems to be a by-product of that change. I may be totally off track, and I am not saying this is a bug.

Teehee, Dulrik is evil.

But, they shouldn't wake up BEFORE the damage is dealt by backstab. That doesn't happen the way cleave or any other attack is done. Damage is greater when someone is sleeping.
