Just so we're on the same page, I read your post as that you're not complaining about the equipment stripping code per se - hopefully you support the principle of that.

Rather, you seem to be saying that if equipment has only been carried by a character for a very small portion of the period being 'cleaned up' then perhaps they aren't as deserving of castration (to quote the MOTD description) as someone who has held equipment for the whole period?

By the way, this is not General Discussion - I was generous in editting your original post, instead of deleting it outright...

I don't believe the level-based theft code happens at reboot (monthly or otherwise).

And uhm, yea you got it right. That is why I complain. Though first I understood it to be som bug, and was later informed it was the monthly reboot.

To clarify what seems to be confusing (is it just me?) --

If you logged off one day and logged back in a week later, you'd have no more or less equipment whether the MUD rebooted 100 times versus never being rebooted at all, while you were away. The code that checks whether you're carrying equipment too high for your level is unrelated to the reboot code, monthly or otherwise.

During a "monthly" reboot, what is taken into account during the cleanup is each character's activity since the prior "monthly" reboot. This is more about storage characters & the castration policy described by the Message of the Day (type MOTD in-game, as seen when you login).

Furthermore, if a character didn't login AT ALL in the time from one monthly reboot to the next, they'd be deleted: hence why we encourage those who are likely to be away for an extended period to find a way to simply login and logoff (even for 1 second) to keep your character active.

Hope that explains things a bit more clearly.

None of the above mentioned situations fits mine.

I log in two days before "monthly reboot" after a long break. My character has newbie area armor on him (as I do not keep eq away from the game that others could use in my away period). I start stocking up on equipment as I am going active again. The monthly reboot then happens and I log in without any of the equipment I was given, except some less rare equipment.
My character was before and after the reboot lvl 50.

Actually, Alshain's second scenario IS applicable to you. In fact, it's exactly what happened. Out of the last 35 days of available playing time, you'd put in less than two. 2/35ths is very small fraction. Therefore you lost high level items due to inactivity.

Playing 8 hours a day every day for 35 days would only give you 11/35 if you calculate it that way...

Playing 2 hours per day every day for 35 days would be almost 3/35...

So anyone who only puts in an hour a day ever day deserves to be stripped of eq?

I was purposefully abstracting the way the system works. The system tracks your total time played during the period, not how many days that you actually logged on. If all you did during the period was marathon two days without sleeping, it's probably safe to say you would not lose anything.
