This is actually a good thing.

Now retreats won't take away ppl tagged on the ground from a fight.

Which kind of renders retreat completely useless? Except for getting your precious pet out of combat? At least nerfs the tactical use of it severely.

I don't like this at all. Now lets all delete our fighters and roll warlocks.

Yeah I hadn't thought about that at all.

It's definitely a nerf to mercenaries not to be able to retreat allies out of battle who've been bashed. I wonder if it was intentional.

Pretty sure I've said that I'll be evaluating how this turned out and making changes as appropriate. Instead of speculating about whether X is awesome or Y is nerfed now, how about getting in the game and trying out theories for yourself with current or new characters? I'm always more interested in hearing first hand information than the current speculation.

And how exactly does someone knocked to the floor going to retreat with his team? Should have been like that to begin with.

The way it works now IS different than how it used to work. The new way does seem to make more sense. I don't think it make retreat useless either. There's still no alternative to retreat except for everyone to flee in a different direction, which sounds pretty bad to me. It does make it less desirable to retreat though, if it means you have to leave guys behind. I guess we'll see how it plays out. Always interested in hearing feedback from play experience.
