It would explain my lack of maxing Cha once before.

I was so dissapointed at that time, then figured that they just raised the Cha limit for H-elves, so I was happy.

Now I know the truth.

I remember discussing this pre-familiarity. Realize that you also lose HP if you do it.
In the past prime stats were not always lost (warriors could lose from ME and INT, dumping HP, for example). Also pre-HP/ME caps, heh.
As I recall there is a random, minor amount added to stats like, for example, HP, when you train up a level. But you lose fixed amounts when you lose a level.

So if you're thinking "hey, I don't like my stats, I'll just use XP-penalties from certain spells that give life to lose levels and redo/pump specific stats," what may happen is this, using HP:

A)Train Level, 20--->21, randomly gain 20 points HP, train stat INT
B)Train Level, 20--->21, randomly gain 5 points HP, train stat INT
Reincarnate, breath of life with no xp, etc.
XP Penality, Level 21--->20, statically lose 15 points HP, lose 1 ATT from Prime

Scenario A) you have a total gain of 5 after losing a level (20-15)
Scenario B) you have a total loss of 10 after losing a level (5-15)

But again, the HP is minor and you can't really even take the chance to end up with gains anymore because of the familiarity system and the change to take only from prime stats. Especially if trying to do this 50 times or something else ridiculous...there were people who did, lol...

PC's greater 'durability' at higher levels is also based on factors other than HP.
*Note: HP numbers are hypothetical, noone knows exactly how those are calculated.

I heard that Dulrik outsourced the coding of the game and adds in new code without looking at it so that he can claim innocence when something goes wrong. Then has the outsourced people sacrificed on monthly basis (those monthly reboots aren't just for mentor rewards) to the volcano gods to appease their fickle nature and to keep quiet what is exactly in the code base. So, really, no one knows. It's all a mystery and we must worship it as such. So sayeth the code.*

*Loosely based on absolutely no information other than what the leprechauns tell me through the underwear gnome conglomerate. Can there be a movie made about the making of SK? I would watch that movie.
