It has to do with how the nightmare shop works. The normal code that works when you buy pets is not used in that shop. It's a different script. From what I understand it had to be done this way to make the price of the nightmares the way it is?

I don't remember the details of the why, I just know that pet shop is done differently than the rest of the game's.

How hard would it be to add a arguement to the command that buys them that allows for them to be named?

TheCannibal is right - the particular shop being complained about isn't your average pet shop. Simply put, no normal shopkeeper would care about your class when buying or selling.

The script doesn't 'buy a pet'. It joins you and your chosen steed after (effectively) stealing the relevant amount of coin from you. Because it doesn't actually buy a pet for you, you don't get the option to name them. So please stop logging it with the BUG command.

Frankly, I'd rather change the room or script to inform the buyer that there is no naming possible. The true in-theme answer for why you cannot summon these no-name pets would be - what kind of knight would let their steed fight for them as they run away screaming?

The same reason our elves aren't generally indigo with glowing eyes?
