The answer is that bard songs are magic. The sounds of the words are audible, but the magic embedded in the lyrics does not carry through the planes.

You can hear the warlock say the magic words, but the fireball doesn't burn you. It works the same with bard songs.

The magical properties of the song do not traverse the plane of existence just like magical spells do not traverse the planes.

That is ONE spell. 1 spell to counter 1 spell. Any others aren't going to touch them, and no one has bitched about it until just now.

I wasn't refering to dispel magic affecting the ethereal, I was refering to dispel magic affecting FROM ethereal.
