There are still laws on the books where you can get hung for messing with a man's horse.

Yeah being able to attack someone elses property and them get in trouble for it is screwy.

In PA you can shoot someone elses dog IF it is a threat to you, your children, or your animals, if you just walk out and shoot someones dog THEY don't get in trouble YOU do.

It makes perfect sense to me that it works that way. One way or another, someone initiated hostility against a member of a group, and it's against the law.

No, not quite. If you were turning into me, you would realize that auto assist should be removed. Targeting in PK should be done manually to raise the skill cap of the game and make decisions during/in combat as important as the prep work (enchanting, brewing, wands, scrolls, etc) before a fight.

A pet is just an extension of you, it is a weapon. It is no different than firing a bolt at someone, that bolt is considered part of you even though you are not touching it. So, if attacking pets doesn't cause a crime, then I argue shooting people, or throwing objects don't count either. Also persuaded and enchanted PC's can't be charged for a crime for attacking others.

Only if you can jump into a fight without breaking sanctuary.

The current auto assist code makes sanctuary more powerful than it should be. The point of the spell is to protect you against hostile action, with the drawback being that you can't initiate hostile action yourself.

I would consider it a bug that it doesn't drop on auto assist, but it has worked that way for so long that it is more like a feature now. I guess Dulrik could always make it so that casting sanctuary on yourself or others toggles auto assist off and toggling it back on causes the effect to end.

It just needs to be this simple, if you attack one member of the group. You are considered attacking them all.

I agree with Finney. There are already a great number of benefits to using sanctuary that you don't need to keep it if you weren't the one that was attacked.

Although to be honest I've found that the great majority of guys that stand beside the tank in group formation typically don't run into PvP with sanctuary up, and are great targets to initiate combat against.

I agree with the sanctuary thing too. It should be there to keep you safe as a healer in a group, not give you an awesome advance as another spellcaster in the group.
