I do agree that unless you were the specific target in the attack, anything retaliatory should break sanc.

If person A targets pet Z who is in a group with X and Y. X has sanc with auto assist on. Person A is charged with assualt/murder (depending on outcome) but person X loses sanc for attacking person A when A did not specifically target X.
