Is this normal, I would have bugged logged it but I it would be hard describing it without the person actually seeing this.

Don't let the damage messages deceive you. Things only die once, unless an imm spam kills you when you're dead.

The area probably regened in the instant it took you to type look. I think I even had it happen to me under morea a few times where the death cry of one mummy would make the one that poped to replace it start attacking me.

That's actually a damage message, not a death message, and yes, it is misleading. You sort of have to think of him going "Ahhh, you're killing me with your magic power!"

Or whatever.

The message "So-and-so kills so-and-so with their deadly wrath" is one of the damage messages for that damage type, like crushing someone with maces and so on. It's just unfortunately close to the death message.

The centaur died only once. If you don't see "so-and-so is DEAD", then they haven't died.

Every so often all the monsters in an area come back ('pop') So that after you kill them they don't just stay dead. If you killed a creature right before the timer went off that brought all the dead creatures back, it would look like it didnt die...

But I read the log wrong anyways... your naj took the leg off, you killed it. I thought you were confused by there being another one in the room.

It might be that your naj killed its lower body, and you killed its mid/upper body all in the same time... and the system didnt check that it was before letting you kill it.... Soemthing about the three differnt parts of the body haveing three different sets of hps or some such.

It's a special damage message. For instance, have you ever seen:

XXX's deadly wrath mauls you.
XXX's deadly wrath injures you.
XXX's deadly wrath wounds you.
XXX's deadly wrath DOES UNSPEAKABLE THINGS to you!

etc.

I'm fairly sure "kills" is just a damage message. Sort of silly, but no the NPC didn't have two lives.

I don't thing bodies have three life areas. But I do think it is the naj's attack type that does the "Kill" thing

There's a remote chance that you reached 0 HP just as a tick went by, allowing you to regen back above 0 health... but I doubt it. It's much more likely that a 'fatality' death message was written in for a non-fatal scenario (eg, a full-damage impact where there was no successful armor or magical protection save).

Category: BUG
Area: Damage message
Weapon type: Flaming Bite [Deadly Wrath too?]
Existing message: A x kills a x as it dismembers its left leg with its flaming bite!
Suggested Replacement: A x severely mauls x as it dismembers its left leg with its flaming bite!

[edit: added note that Deadly Wrath may also have the typo]
