Post subject:  Requesting symbols

Code:
You say to <lowbie> 'Try to ask him for it.'
<lowbie> nods at you.
A council banisher says to <lowbie> 'I really don't think you can handle the responsiblity yet.'

You boggle at him.

<lowbie> says to you 'The answer they always give me...'
You say to a council banisher 'But... you share the same faith, brother.'

A council banisher says to you 'If you convince me...'
A council banisher says to you 'I'll give you a small medallion engraved with white flames.'
You spend time convincing a council banisher of your worthiness.

<lowbie-who-knows-what-he's-doing> tells the group 'ooc: You need to be level 30 to request a symbol... That's about expert :('

Now, I suppose this doesn't matter much to a darkie who can justify the "Well, then maybe I'll just TAKE it" option. But for a lightie below level 30 not to be able to request his own symbol... that seems a bit silly to me.

This is why I've always advocated having at least one priest(ess) NPC per faith (in a catherdral-type place to show their importance) that can create a symbol for those with the faith flag upon a key sentence. Good for faiths/faithful of any aura/level, and very good when the faith in question doesn't have a highly active or non-existant priest that can cast holy symbol.

First of all, there's absolutely no bug here. This should have been posted in a different forum. At any rate, the person you are supposed to be convincing is your PC high priest. They have the power to create a symbol for you regardless of your level.

Funny thing is, D... I am the High priest. But I play a max of six hours any given day, and generally late in the evening (when the West Coast and Aussies are around). So I was testing this out with a relatively newly-invested character, since I don't necessarily cross paths with everyone in the faith.

Sorry about placing it in the wrong forum, though. Gameplay, perhaps? Why can't a character request a symbol in case the HF is not on, or available?

The symbols that are on NPCs are not intended to be requested at all. Players are supposed to get all symbols through their high priest. If you have problems being available, make some extras and give them to a trusted follower to distribute them for you.

So... why are they level thirty, then? I'm very confused... :-?

Also, sometimes I leave a few "extras" with our priest NPC in the Cathedral, for people I won't get to see the rest of the evening/morning. I suppose this is a dumb idea too, then. PCs only.

That they are level 30 seems irrelevant to this discussion. They are level 30 because the effect they provide is not allowed for lower level items.

I was just thinking, if they're not intended to be requested, then they should be marked 51 or something. But now at least I understand why they are marked as such now.

And what about faiths that don't have a high priest? I know there are a few that have a high follower that is a different profession but no priest that can make symbols.

That's why favored priests can make symbols as well as high priests. I realize it can be hard to sometimes attract one, but if your RELIGION doesn't have at least one actual priest, then you are going to have to expect to be at some disadvantage when it comes to asking for special favors from your god.
