Big D, I thought you had tweaked tracking into a more sensible thing, but then I find myself followed by a NPC almost two kingdoms afar (I think I even recalled and it didn't lose me). More recently, this took place;

(A blinded minotaur)

[HP: 78%] [ME:100%] [PE:100%]
> flee
You run southeast.

A vicious male minotaur walks in from northwest.
A vicious male minotaur peers around himself intently.

You walk north.

A vicious male minotaur walks in from the south.
A vicious male minotaur peers around himself intently.

---

How the hell does he follow if he's blind anyway? This looks pretty buggy to me, considering he just does it so that when the blindness affect wears off, he can break me apart.

I still had a Fytrysk follow me although I was flying. (Died because of it also).

You have to consider, these aren't normal people that track footsteps.

These are supernatural fiends and special races that carry more abilities to hunt then that of just a footstep. They can likely smelly our fear as you run away, listen to the sound of footsteps as you walk away and determine which direction you went. They can feel the ground and see if you passed and likely feel the heat of a warm blooded creature that has just been there pass.

I'm pretty certain you must NOT have actually recalled as that would lose them. For the most part, I like Joran's explanation. It's certainly not about footsteps. On a gameplay level, NPCs get to have some compensations for the fact that unlike (most) players, they don't have any real intelligence.

Don't insult the NPCs, some of them are smarter than the players.

NPC union; local chapter:661

No offense Joran, but I think that is a poor explanation. Unless they are truely unique creature (The Fytrysk I might admit to and definately never a minotaur) they should not be able to track you after you take flight or do something else that would make you footsteps end.

I know in real life minotaurs can track me to the next city after I blinded them too.

Don't even get me started about dwarves, I fireball them, go invis so they can't see me get on a plane and still when I look out the window I see a hoarde of dwarves running after me.

Er. I wasn't talking about anything supernatural tho'. Minotaurs are just another humanoid race. And anyway, -everything- can track like an expert. I'd just like it to get more sensible.. the scent being lost after, oh I don't know, 100 miles or so.
