I don't know if it is a bug or not but yesterday. I was with some others. I ordered the top mage wizard to cast some spells on me. I had none already on me and I removed all equipment. He had to cast the same spell more than a dozen times before it would take effect on me. Right now it took him four tries to do it. Is something up?

Every time that mage casted a spell but you didn't receive the effect of it does NOT mean you resisted the spell.

When you are resisting a spell, you get a message something along the line of: "You resist the effects of a mage wizard's spell!"

I agree with DA's statement - the wizard most likely just failed to cast the spell in the first place.

I don't know, he may be on to something.... I have noticed magic resistance kicking in a LOT recently, but seemingly only on beneficial spells (ie- heal, sanc, protection, armor, bless, etc). At champion and with a priest's ART mastered, I have recently been failing those beneficial spells vs. magic resistance far more often than ever in the past, even on players with very low magic resistance. As luck would have it, of course, I have noticed no change in MR completely resisting negative spells.

It would sure ease my mind to know this isn't happening just to me....

I dropped a new piece of MR-heavy armor on my character a few nights ago, and figured that was the reason. Over the last three days, I've been resisting my own heals a lot as well.

But remember that Art doesn't affect beneficial spells like that, if I understand correctly. Art lowers the fort/reflex saves that negative spells have to work through which beneficial spells do not. Since beneficial spells are only stopped by MR, then art makes no difference.

True. I just can't figure out how or why my beneficial spells seem to fail more now as I have reached a higher level, when my MR is lower and when casting them on comparably lower level characters, than they failed 10-20 levels ago, when I had higher MR and was casting them on comparably higher level characters.

:-?

But you know what now? They are now all working correctly. All of the spells that are being cast on me are doing it in the fashion that I expect it to. I don't know what was going on.

Probably no errors at all here. It's random and that means you can get long stretches of it failing or long stretches of it working. Nobody seems to notice or complain when you don't fail though.

I wasn't complaining about failing/succeeding the casting of it- I know how bizarre the 'random' clumps are with the casting of a spell.

I have only noticed a marked increase in MR deflecting beneficial spells. So far it's been just enough to pique my curiosity, not yet enough to complain about a suspected bug or to accuse you of tweaking magic resistance in your never-ending quest to [REDACTED] me off.
