Code:
[HP:  66%] [ME:  53%] [PE:  50%] [Coins: zero]

A human warrior punches at your left wrist, causing a big gash.
A human warrior punches at your stomach, causing a small wound.
A human warrior punches at your stomach, causing a small wound.
A human warrior punches at your right ankle, gashing a small wound.
You strike suddenly, stabbing at a human warrior's chest!  Some GUTS fall!
You strike suddenly, stabbing at a human warrior's chest!  Some GUTS fall!
You have become better at toughness!
You stab a human warrior's mouth, knocking out a few of its teeth!
You miss a human warrior.
Overall, a human warrior has some big nasty wounds and scratches.

[HP:  62%] [ME:  53%] [PE:  50%] [Coins: zero]

Shouldn't toughness improves come when I am getting hit and learn to toughen up, rather then slapping around other folks?

Naw, you're tough because you beat the [REDACTED] out of people.

I've had improvements on both sides. You toughen up by taking and giving hits. Just happened that this tick improvement came when and where it did.

If you fight barbarians you can learn about toughness as you hit them(they have a tough skin also).

Also, since you have a barbarian, you can improve at blind fighting not only when you are blinded and fight, but also when you land dirt kicks to your barbarian opponents and fight them.

No bug, feature.

Where you are training is also an excellent place to improve your endurance skill, too. Same reasoning applies.

You can't be serious.
So my shaman should fight blood dryads in an effort to improve his sleep when it is cast on him? This has interesting implications, if the code actually allows improvement when a NPC triggers a known skill.

Doublechecked the code. It looks like you can only improve toughness by fighting someone who has toughness. Definitely a bug.

So, basically..If you didn't level in the CoH you'd never master toughness.

There are other barbs in the game, that do less damage, so you can let them rage while wild fighting, and go unarmed yourself, you'll master toughness in no time.
