Alright, this has happened twice in PK now... the first time, I was attacking a giant merc, and without rescuing I somehow started attacking the fire elemental a round later. I shifted my attack back to the giant, only to have it shift back to the elemental AGAIN after a few rounds.

Now this just recently happened again, attacking a the owner of the elemental, and without a rescue or any kind of message, my attacks shifted onto the elemental.

This happened to me on Sorel all the time. I even pasted snippets of the log in the bug discussion. For some reason PCs will arbitrarily change target onto fire elementals (maybe it's more then fire elementals, but that's the only enemy i can think of that it happened repeatedly on) in the middle of combat, for no reason (no rescue, no position shifting, nothing).

This has happened to me too. While in pk, I had five wraiths on the front lines, all with reach to the 2nd row. Although I 'o all k second-row-person' only one actually targetted him.

Is this only ever experienced with fire elementals? If so, I'd suspect Dulrik's (reasonably) new NPC coding, that has grouped NPCs do things like rescue. Maybe it doesn't have an echo?

The elemental taking over hits without specifically doing anything is quite a powerful, automatic defense mechanism for the warlock. I have wondered for a while if this is a bug or feature now.

It's not a warlock specific bug, nor does it solely belong to elementals. It's happened to me while facing PCs.

I don't think it's a rescuing bug, because it happened instantaniously in my situation. And there weren't any echoes of "A wraith is busy right now!" or any of that.
