Post subject: | The Case of the Vanishing Dex |
I've played two human swashies on SK. On both of them, I've had problems with the game registering dex points spent. On the first one, once my dex hit 23, the trainers would give me the 'you don't have enough points' message when I tried to train it. So, I got a point, and trained it. Dex stayed 23, point vanished. Suicide and reincarnations later.. Problem mostly solved. I bugged it, and it was never really fixed. *pauses a moment to glare at the admins* On my second- the one I'm playing lately- my dex just doesn't want to say at 23. Once I maxed my fighter stats, I moved onto cha.. and after a cha train, I noticed that my dex was still at 22. I figured I'd just forgotten to feed it the extra point.. So, some training later, I gave it a point. Checked score, since I've had dex issues before, and I was carrying 1/23 items.. So, I figured it's all good. I kept playing, until SK went down for a second. I re-logged, and played some more. Then, I checked my score again... -dum dum dummmmmm-... 1/22 items. No spendable attribute points in sight. So, I do proclaim to the heavens.. OMFGWTF?!! :x |

Here's the most likely cause. You fled and the XP loss caused you to lose a level. Upon losing the level, one of your stats was docked a point to compensate for the extra train you would be getting when you regain the level. The stat that was docked for you was dex. |

Did you have multiple SD's stacked? On two of my characters (mage, shaman), if I get multiple SDs stacking up, when they wear off I find I've permanently lost a stat point, always from the stat most pertinent to the class, and never with a spendable point being returned. |

Losing stats permanently from spirit disorientation seems unlikely. The modifier is not applied to your permanent total, so even if something messed up, the worst case is the problem should fix itself once the spirit disorientation is gone and you re-log into the game. |

I've had to max wis on my shaman three times, and only ever after having been rezzed (not raise dead, or breath of life, but resurrection) more than once. So yeah, it may be unlikely, and it hasn't happened on my most current character, but with the mage and shaman it does happen. |

I positive that I haven't fled at any point in time between when I trained that stat point, and when I lost it. [Edit]: And that still doesn't explain my first dex loss. Activist, were your chars human when that happend? I'm starting to think this might be a thing that hits human favored atts. Also, my current exp score is 'a long way to go until the next level.'. Also, I believe I levelled once after that att train, and I diddn't get an att point for that. Which means, if I had gained a level, gained an att point, spend it, lost a level and regained a level, I'd have an att point. Supposing that I diddn't level, even though I'm pretty sure I did, that would mean that I would be at 'nearly eligible' on my -worth-. However, I'm at 'a long way until the next level.' Either way, it doesn't add up. And no, I haven't died, or been cursed, or done anything that I noticed that would lower my exp, or gotten the message that I lost a level. |

My shaman is human, yes, but the mage is griffon. |

You haven't gone past the 1/2 age mark, have you? That causes you to lose a point in your fighting stats, I believe. |

Most likely you were wearing something that increased your dex. So your natural dexterity + the modification = max now training a stat there just increased your natural dexterity but you did not see any change because mods will not take you any higher. on the second case, provided that your max dexterity is indeed 23 then you probably wore something that lowered your dexterity. Always check your EQ first in similar cases. |

No, I haven't age ticked on either. Morovik.. I never said I diddn't see a change. I said, I saw one and it was quickly omitted. Twice. I was suspicious of loosing a dex based on past experiences, so I checked my score immediately before and after training my dex. Since it hopped from 22 to 23 like it should, I diddn't bother logging it (which I now seriously regret). And my dex is now, and possibly forever- *glares at imms*- stuck at 22. I checked my stats naked- same deal. So.. ehh.. I'd really love to hear from an imm sooner or later, so I can know if 1) it's fixed or 2) I get to suicide-reincarnate down to apprentice to get my att points back. |
