You walk west.

In the midst of a dank and fetid marsh
Dark and murky water combined with the slightly acrid stench of
decomposing plant matter serve to fill your senses. Decorating the surface
of the fluid are scattered clumps of algae, a few distinct oversized lily
pads, and wide swathes of duckweed. Jutting out of the primordial soup of
the marsh are the same twisting cypress arms that fill the rest of the area
as well as the odd group of drooping weeping willow limbs. Despite the
inhospitable look of the fens if examined closely movement can be seen below
the surface.
It's raining extremely hard, hot, and very windy.

Now this has been happening to me for quite a while, I tame an aggro animal with the intention of us both going on our merry way, when all of a sudden I seem to change my mind and shoot them up with another round.

Now, might that have something to do with this?
[code][HP:100%] [ME:100%] [PE:100%] Time:9am
skirmish
You stop skirmishing.

It seems I'm always skirmishing, just with no target? I don't get it.

Right now if I want the animal to live I have to either close my arrow containers, remove my bow, or move to melee and tame from there.

This only seems to happen when:
- I'm behind my pet
- wielding a ranged weapon

If I tame them quickly enough so that I never shoot the first round then the problem doesen't occur, but if one arrow hits them, and I tame them, I'll still continue to fight.

This probably doesen't seem that important to most but it sure screws up my RP.

Wild animal leaps out and attacks.
Man calms wild animal, just to shoot it once its calmed down.
Then he does it again.
And again.
Help.

you could alias, tame with auto shoot;tame &1;auto shoot
Or something similar. That way you stop shooting, tame, then activate auto shoot for later.
Also, I think that skirmish stops with 'stop' and providing it without an argument does nothing.

I hope this helps.

(ps: What manner of a scout are you? Having a TRINOCEROS fight a poor lil' possum! :P )

I would simply do this. Auto fire. Tame.

Turn off auto assist.

These suggestions are all well and good, turning off either auto fire or auto assist will keep me from firing when I don't want to. The thing is if I don't see this situation coming, I've got to type quick or the critter bites the dust.

I guess I'll just deal with it, but its still annoying.
:-?

I went there to get the log for my post, but for the record, the possum started it.

Thanks for the help.

Ah, what we have to suffer for RP. I'd say if you kill the animal, just make that part of your RP, in penance, if your character objects to the needless death of animals. One could skin the creature, and carry its skin as an homage. I am sure there are lots of ways to respond appropriately to what's happening without breaking your RP, even if you did kill the animal. Sometimes they are rabid or sick. They were dangerous to someone innocent. If you make it a big deal to kill an animal, then that's RP.

I don't think the RP was his concern, A.

This what I was going off of.

This also occurs when you shoot something but do not kill it. The next thing that comes within range that you can shoot it will auto fire at the new target.

Example:

You are out killing deer and it dies from wounds taken rather than a death blow by you. You skin/butcher, get your arrows and move. Without having to type in a command, you will start shooting at the next "deer" within range. You will just continuous shoot until you, or someone you are with, actually get the killing hit.
