I keep track of the current daytime in my prompt for a variety of reasons. One thing this is especially useful for is to know when to open a gate, and when I should wait a few seconds before creating it. However, this isn't possible at present, because the tick timer, and the current hour displayed in the prompt are too different to rely on the prompt. Is this a bug, or "feature"? sleeper |

Ticks are either semi-random or purely random, so that you can't use the tick timer to time things. |

From my understanding, they are of a specific range of duration but not a specific actual duration. As such, timers can only be depended on for approximation. |

Ticks on SK is definitely not 'random' in the sense that it has varied durations. Having said that, however, the following is a list of potential reasons that may have been contributing to that 'varied durations' theory: 1. SK is a program that is being hosted on a computer. Currently this computer isn't the hottest PC in the world, and its connection is being shared by other applications at the moment. It creates 'tick lag' occasionally, therefore making as if actual tick durations are unpredictable. 2. Your Internet connection matters, since it is a send and receive protocol. This largely depends on the quality of ISP and how many heavy downloaders are in the area. 3. Any 'hops' between your ISP to SK's current host could be lagging. SK host computer is in the US. 4. Vivid imagination! World is coming to an end! Maybe some day SK host computer would become dedicated when there is more allowance for Dulrik to do so. |

Untrue. Its not on any PC. We pay for hosting of the game. It is a commercial host. It isn't a dedicated server. It is better than what we had a year ago, by my guess. |

Minette you are most definitely wrong. Look at the underlined portion. Quote: [Game help] ticks
Many of the game actions are based upon interval timers, including combat, most autonomous monster actions, hp/mana/move regeneration, spell duration, weather, and area resets. Of these timers, the hp/mana/move regeneration timer is popularly called the tick. Ticks on Shattered Kingdoms average 1 minute of real time, but the actual amount varies randomly from 45 seconds to 75 seconds. Area resets are variable as to length depending on the area. Also note that objects lying on the ground will not be regenerated if anyone is in the area when it resets. |
