A roughly hewn door.
The rough hewn door is open.
You see A Guard Post In The Tunnel.
A kobold guard, a worg mount and a goblin guard are nearby south from here.

You ride a nightmare south.

A Guard Post In The Tunnel
This is a guard post that serves as an entryway into the room beyond.
There is a table and a fire pit in the corner. One might rest in this room
on one of the mats. It's a very simple guard post. There is a rack,
devoid of weapons. The chests that would hold armor or supplies seem broken
or empty.
Obvious exits: n e(closed) s(closed) w(closed)
(15) A scrumptious looking steak is here.
This belt of tanso steel is simply constructed and not well maintained.
These leggings are tanso steel, but not well kept.
This simple, piece of concave tanso covers the head. Its plain, and has a dent.
(Charmed) A nightmare is flying here mounted by you.
(Hide) A kobold guard sneaks through the tunnel here.
A goblin guard is here riding on a worg mount.

You chop a goblin guard's chest, cutting a small but painful, wound.
A goblin guard looks tired and weak.
A goblin guard turns slightly green, but it passes.
A nightmare misses a goblin guard.
A goblin guard slams into you and sends you sprawling!
Your armor protects you from the physical affects of a goblin guard's bash.
A goblin guard cleaves at your chest, barely scratching you.
A worg mount tries to bite at your stomach, but his blow is deflected by a glistening plate belt.
Overall, a goblin guard has a few scratches.

I stack commands in order to cleave the goblin. As you can see, I couldn't although combat had not really started yet.

Invis. Sneak and hide.

This is a feature, not a bug. Considering the fact that every room you walk into lags you a short time relative to your movespeed, it's impossible to "win initiative" against a truly aggro NPC without them either not seeing you, or failing against an intimidate/sanctuary.

But I WANTED to fight them, I just wanted to start with a cleave. And they DIDN'T start the fight, however I was considered engaged in a fight already. That's the bug.

I don't see any bug. The guards don't want you there, so they attack.

PLEASE read my log carefully. It's not that they are aggro, I know they are scripted to be agro.

The bug is that although they had NOT initiated combat yet, I was not allowed to initiate combat myself with a cleave, because for some reason the code considered combat to have begun (while NOT ONE MOVE had already happened).

Please read the log thoroughly.

Looks like aggro NPCs are always in combat.

Wrong. They INITIATE combat on triggers (PC entering). Take for example the tough orcs in Zhensh. They are aggro, and they will initiate combat. The trigger perhaps has a timer about how fast it initiates combat, cause tough orcs take some time before they initiate. If you initiate combat before it, you can always do so however you like, even with cleave or backstab.

Not all aggro NPCs are the same. The tough orcs for example only initiate combat if you enter the room. If you sleep where they spawn, they won't bother you. Most other aggro NPCs will attack as soon as they spawn.

Wouldn't it be nice if sneak allowed you to get past those aggro NPCs? They must be spamming "look" with a trigger "* is here; kill %1"
