A small, narrow cavern
No natural light penetrates this place. A dank odor, a
mixture of mold and droppings, permeates the air in these
cramped caverns. Rough, jagged stones of flint and granite are
all over, jutting out from the walls and strewn across the
narrow passage that winds down deeper into the shadows. The
center of the passage, however, has been worn down to smooth to
a foot-wide, sinuous path.

Saxia says '[REDACTED]'

Saxia's pet was the grunthar and mine was the watery thing. I didn't order the watery thing to cast any spells whatsoever - we were all in a group together - and I don't recognize the spell the watery thing cast, so I don't know if it has anything to do with the grunthar turning on Saxia or not.

But this seems awful buggy to me.

Are you sure you didn't order it to do something? It doesn't show where the watery thing starts to concentrate in the log, just the casting of the spell. If it's just casting the spell with no concentration, and no orders then it's definatly bugged.

I was using a fae-rin not too long ago in the bakemono caves and had a similar problem. I was fighting centipedes and it suddenly started casting on spiders without being ordered to do anything. I'm not sure why it changed targets.

The spell is color spray, so it was certainly the reason it turned on her.

I can't remember what the dead 'insect' in the room is called, but it is probably that the "thing" started casting on 'large', 'rock-like' or 'animal' and the insect then died, leaving the spell to target the grunthar through a common adjective.

Yeah. NPCs cast by name, which in the case of most NPCs is an adjective. If a magma mephit starts to concentrate casting at a magma golem, and then the magma golem dies before the casting is finished, it will cast at itself, for example.

This is the same reason, code-wise, why NPCs don't cast aggressive spells while blinded: They try to cast at their target by name, but the casting fails because they can't see their target.
