The only explanation is that I wrecked him so bad they counted it as two kills instead of one.

I had this same problem when I ganked someone in Taslamar and it counted the crime like 4 or 5 times.

The tells I got concerning it were great though.

I usually get that problem when I kill someone infront of multiple NPCs, like inside the Exile Inn. My guess is that it's not checking to see if a crime has already been reported if it comes from a chain of NPCs, like it would if a bunch of PC's reported the same crime. If it does check, perhaps it's failing to do so when multiple NPCs report the same crime at the exact same time.

The multiple NPC thing is true.

If you are already in jail and serving a crime, the specific crime can be reported again by anyone who has a memory of it.

It can even be abused.

So that "This crime has already been reported..." is only if they're not already in jail, then?

It works while they are in jail to, but on occasion you can sometimes report them for a crime after someone has done the time for it already and got back out of jail. Thus, making them serve 2 terms in jail.

Well, if you wanted to get into -real- abuse, then take this scenario.

Crimes are witnessed by two or more people, let's call them witness A and B, etc.

Witness A reports crime, criminal gets put in jail.

Criminal gets put in jail, then pardoned and immediately killed by a gank squad waiting at the judge led by the tribunal leader.

Witness B reports crime again, and the crime takes, since the criminal was pardoned before.

(You can also pardon someone for their crimes to trick them into a false sense of security, gank them, and then have another person who hasn't yet reported the crime do so. In fact, I remember reading a log where this very thing happened.)

The problem is, unless Dulrik is planning on flagging every specific instance of lawbreaking with a specific ID number of it's own and then having every judge remember every crime that has ever been reported until it empties on the nightly reboot, then this will always be possible. Seems like a pretty decent amount of work and fixes required (Especially since I'm sure that my psuedo-psuedo-code isn't that close to what would be actually required for that sort of a change) for what is a blatant abuse of power that should be punished with a tribunal blemishment/uninduction.

True. Someone even asked me to participate in such a thing. I logged it after telling the individual just how far against principle such actions would be. (Never mind the golden rule).

Nuff said, I think.

Erm, pardoning people to gank them should be completely fair. Now that you don't lose loot for being arrested people are going to spam auto surrender so the tribunal can't capture them.
