Here I'm fighting the lean guy with a group member, both in combat, both in the front row and she is being targeted by the NPC. If I just use the command HAMSTRING it normally targets whoever I'm fighting but it looks like it's targeting someone else here and doesnt fire until I use the command with a target (lean in this case):
Quote:
A lean male half-elf punches at Kaslyn's face, slightly bruising her cheek.
A lean male half-elf punches at Kaslyn's chest, barely wounding her.
A lean male half-elf dodges your attack.
Kaslyn misses a lean male half-elf.
Overall, a lean male half-elf has quite a few wounds.

It's because you're targetting the first NPC in the room the way you did that.

Shouldn't typing in the skill with no target just auto target who I'm already fighting?

Assuming the earlier answer doesn't satisfy you (i.e. if you're certain there was only one NPC in the room each time), perhaps the formation checking code isn't working properly when you don't supply a target ...?

We'd need a more thorough log to be sure there's no other NPCs in the room that are adding to the confusion. I'd also suggest trying to co-ordinate a log from both yourself and your friend. Throw in a social every now and then to sync points in the log.

there were other NPCs in that group fighting us, all the same NPC. I wasn't being hit by any of them and they were all attacking my group. No target with the skills and nothing would happen (behind someone or on the ground) but if i targeted 'NPC' it worked.

To expand on the earlier explanation then:

At the start of the battle -

> trip dwarf
(you start fighting the first NPC in the room)
.
:
> trip
He's already on the ground.
(the mud 'ticks' and a new NPC spawns - you're now fighting the second NPC in the room)
.
:
> trip
He's already on the ground.
.
:
> trip dwarf
(you've just started fighting the newly spawned NPC)
