Should this ring still try to be doing its thing in my inv?

Im in jail mind you so maybe that has an affect.

Most likely a problem with the no-magic flag of the room. Most scripted items fire as soon as you leave the room again, but since you removed it prior to that happening, I suspect that made it turn fubar.

Possibly a serious bug, considering the item removal code should be able to be relied upon by those writing scripts.
