Quote: You brandish a tall staff tipped with a prism of ice.
Your attack falters as you near a deep-elven hellion. You cower away from a deep-elven hellion's mighty presence! You cower away from a deep-elven hellion's mighty presence! Your spell passes ineffectually through a wraith. Your spell passes ineffectually through a wraith. Since when can you intimidate a brandish? And if you can intimidate someone from brandishing, should it not happen before the actual brandish and resulting waste of charge? |

Wow, I had no idea you could intimidate a brandish. That's actually really surprising. I would expect it to circumvent intimidate the same way HW does. |

Not a fan of that. |

And as for the "since when," I assume this was changed at the same time that it became possible to intimidate a recite attempt. |

I respect this change. I mean if you're too afraid to attack them, you'd be too afraid to zap a wand or recite a scroll or brandish a staff at them. |

But it should happen before the brandish, no? I am pointing out that you recite, zap, and brandish and then are intimidated. How are you intimidated after the fact? |

Well, in this case the intimidate doesn't stop the brandish, just the brandish against the group mates of said hellion that intimidated you, which is why it still affects the ethereal wraiths that are in the room, but not part of either his or your group. The broken part isn't that his intimidate stops you from using the staff against his group, but more that you have to succeed against his intimidate for -every- member of his group. Intimidate and sanctuary all work the same in that effect: You begin concentrating on the spell, but you check to save against their intimidate or sanc -after- the casting time finishes. I'm not saying it's balanced, But I am saying that it makes sense from a mechanics standpoint that scrolls, staves and wands aren't any differently affected than other skills or spells. |

Even the staff is too scared to do anything. |

If it were Slayne, I'd say that this is a reflection of Mira being too much of a weakling to dare touch him with magic. I don't know why it would work on any other hellion though. |

I think Tragonis is correct but devices have always worked funny. Likely due to Dulrik being the head coder. |
