Post subject:  River current and mounts

I mounted my lion while flying and I didn't cast fly on the lion. I got in the Anduras river and went east to get out, but the current swept my lion southeast before I did. I didn't get swept with it, which makes sense, because I wasn't actually in the saddle, I was flying above it. But, when I went east, it said I was still mounted on my lion...which wasn't there.

You ride a thick-maned lion southeast.

Anduras River
The stream is joined by several other spring-fed creeks as it
rff plunges into the deeps of the Selkwood Forest. Both banks become
f*f choked with vegetation to the southeast, though the left is
fhr substantially more tangled than the right. The waters are swift
and dark. It's partly cloudy, cool, and calm.

Selkwood Forest
Slender trees with a silvery bark grow tall here, their wide
fff crowns adorned with leaves ranging in hue from pale green to pure
r*f white. Its branches reach upward towards the sky, swaying
hrf gracefully as the wind ruffles them and sends flurries of dry
leaves down to towards the forest floor. In between the trees,
numerous starfalls grow, their silky star-shaped crowns peeking up through
the fallen leaves and grass. It's partly cloudy, cool, and calm.

This isn't really a discussion topic, just a more detailed description of the bug than I could have offered using the BUG command.

So the MOUNT command should check if you're flying and the mount isn't. "Your mount is too far below you. Perhaps you should land?"

uh, sure I guess. I've started flying and mounted, and I've mounted and while mounted, I would cast fly on myself, and start flying that way...to be honest, I just thought it was meant to be that way. if you aren't supposed to be able to fly and mount at the same time, then yeah, there is a problem.

Actually, if your mount drifts off in a river, you should go with it regardless of whether you are flying. That's the bug here.

that's the original bug, but if i weren't flying I think I would have went with it. This bug is caused by a second bug that Alshain picked up on. *clap*

Being able to mount a landed pet while you are flying doesn't seem like a bug at all.

being able to mount anything while your flying...what keeps you mounted. your legs aren't on the sides of the mount, your butt isn't sitting on the mount, you should be in contact with the mount to be mounted.

I agree.

You should be able to mount a flying pet while you are landed, but you should not be able to mount a landed put while you are flying.

I was also thinking about the other possible scenarios - ICly, how do you reach the saddle if they're flying above you? Various pets that magically fly and cannot take off after landing need this scenario to remain as it is, though.

ICly, I suppose you're hopping on the mount as it swoops? Maybe if there was a saving throw based on dexterity? "You try to mount your pegasus as it flies past, only to fall off the other side." :P j/k

Another one: I would prefer that mounting a flying pet - while your character is also flying - should remain doable, too.

I don't really see the problem with mounting a landed pet while you are flying. Flight is only supposed to be a couple of feet off the ground anyway, considering you can still be reached via melee combat (Just don't think about the flying over cities thing too hard).

I don't think any change should be made from this. It will be annoying to have to fly a pet or land just because you want to mount it for a while.
