Basically I saw a situation today in which there two groups.

Group 1: Adam and Bob(leader). Adam's pet: Charlie. Bob's pet: Dave.

Group 2: Adam and Zydar.

Adam gets stunned. Leaves Bob's group. Adam's pet, Charlie, is still in the same group as Bob and Dave. Adam joins Zydar's group.

Bob and Dave subsequently attack Eve, and guess what? Charlie assists. Charlie kills Eve. Adam is responsible, even when he wasn't attacking.

Hard to exploit because Charlie wasn't following Bob, but I still don't think it should work this way.

Also, conceivably a newbie could attack a pet that was resting somewhere and after dying, report the owner of the pet.

Pets should automatically leave a group when their master leaves a group. That way there doesn't have to be any funny business with login/logout.

If your dingo eats someone's baby, that's your fault. And everyone knows Adam is just as much to blame as Eve.

Though pets leaving groups when their owner does would be nice: Just not extremely important.

True enough. Rather minor.

But.

If you were in a group with me and your pet, and we were contemplating killing Syn (I know, too easy), and you were scared and didn't want to, so I ejected you, and then I attacked her, and your pet killed her... and you got banished for not doing anything, in fact you were doing exactly the opposite of breaking the law...

That would kinda suck.

I'd order my pet to attack me, then when you killed her and then attacked me via auto assist I'd report you.

Pretty sure it is because your last character ate dingos.
(You're a good pkiller)

Come on man you know that is impossible to order a pet to attack you. The only way to prevent would be to immediately do one of the following: free, word of recall, o all mode stun, quit.
