Probably more of a feature than a bug, but why does the following happen?

Code:
> o shadow emote pretends to drink tea.
A shadow makes some incomprehensible gestures.
Ok.

[HP:100%] [ME:100%] [PE:100%]
> o shadow emote pretends to drink tea.

Veret says 'Alright. I got things to do'

[HP:100%] [ME:100%] [PE:100%]
> A shadow makes some incomprehensible gestures.
Ok.

[HP:100%] [ME:100%] [PE:100%]
> o shadow emote pretends to drink tea.
A shadow pretends to drink tea.
Ok.

When I order it to do socials, it does just fine. Only emotes/pemotes have that problem.

This is a "feature" that was introduced about 8 years ago when languages actually took time to learn - prior to mentoring and a plethora of trainers (including the "ancient" and "forgotten" languages) and people were using emotes to get around the language code. Things like: emote says to the dumb male human, "Gee! This works great. Why learn to speak other languages?"

As grep mentioned - there is at least one language that everyone can understand (white / god / common) and one that can't be learned (bright green / undead? / demon?)

Also, socials transcend the language barrier while emotes do not.

I don't think there is a bright green one, usually that's just echoes from scripts. I do think though that that 8 year old change was an unjust but unfortunately necessary one.

As was said, this is a very unfortunate feature. Even 8 years ago all you had to do was ask and most people knew where to find all languages. There was a very easily accessed trainer under Exile where you could get everything and yet people went the lazy route and used emotes. This was the end result. Now a bard trying to emote an elaborate bow can be made to look a fool by a language barrier. Priests trying to emote a better resurrection make no sense. It's unfortunate, but what can you do?

Well, I've never encountered this problem while using emotes myself, just when ordering them to my pets.

Thanks for the answers, everyone!
