The Inn of the Rumbling Zakami
Similar to the large main open area in the entranceway, the walls of this
room are painted in the same color and metallic highlighting, with the same
deep borderings. A grand desk is resting on the opposite wall, for the
convenience and use, evidently, of the receptionist.
Obvious exits: n(closed) e s(closed) se(closed)
A crystalline device, emitting a dull hum, rests within ethereal light.
An astral watcher is here facilitating the use of the crystal.
> look se
The door to room one is closed.

You are carrying:
87 copper coins
98 silver coins
a wooden practice bow (brand new)
some colorful dumplings on a stick
***
a brass key to room one
***
a spiral, serpentine ring (brand new)
a cloth practice quiver (brand new)
a waterskin

You can't do that.

Explanation: when you type se, you target yourself.

Thanks. That worked.

I was confused because 'unlock n' and 'unlock s' had both worked fine to check the other two rooms.

I don't feel stupid.

If 'close se' works then so should 'unlock se' since you can no more close yourself than you can unlock yourself.

Yes grasshopper, you will never unlock this door until you know first what it means to unlock yourself.

I don't think it's "self". I think this happens with unlock whenever you have a piece of gear on that starts with SE, NE, or SW. Try wearing a sword for example and unlocking sw.

Heh, it was the serpentine ring in your inventory. It happens all the time to me in the Outpost and various other places if I get it from the Nerina newbie quest, especially when people wear it. Try removing it and stowing it in your bag and see if it helps. :P
