Is something wrong with training staves and wands? Probably scrolls too but I haven't tested those yet. I have been trying to brandish/zap staves/wands and recharge them for a few days now but that didn't seem to work and I wasted more time recharging (I do get a lot of recharge failures despite the fact that I have mastered the spell) than training. Today I've been training for the better part of eleven hours while I sit behind this desk and have gone through literally dozens of staves and hundreds of charges with not a single skill increase. Maybe everything is working as designed but going so long without even one increase makes me worry that something may not be working properly. I've even logged my efforts. Is this normal? Are other people having a similar problem? |

Just a guess based on the problem you have described: Are you sure you haven't mastered the skills already but are wearing a piece of heavy/light armor that is reducing your skills? For example, you could be a sorc with mastered wands, but if you're accidentally wearing a leather vest it might drop to superb, causing you to try to train it. Can't remember if forbidden armor lowers those skills as well, but I figured it's worth mentioning. |

I remember those skills not being affected when I wore armor to master my spells but I just double-checked and, no, my skills aren't being affected by the armor I am wearing. There's no difference in skill level between my being fully equipped and my being naked. |

I didn't read this carefully, but if you try to brandish a stave that is beyond your level it just doesn't work, regardless of your skill with staves. This may be your issue. |

I'm GM so I don't think level is an issue and the spells are going off. I'm just not seeing any skill increases. |

Yeah sorry I totally read that wrong. I haven't had an issue with skill improvements staves - I just got an improvement on my character two days ago. There seems to be a chance of improvement for each target affected, though, so one way you can accelerate your learning is to brandish group staves in large groups or brandish attack staves against multiple opponents. |

And yeah, each target is a chance. So brandish a weak fly/armor stave over and over in a group of 4-5 if you can. (Charm, pet, you, guard, maybe a bored PC or two.) I haven't noticed any problems with this either. Some stuff just takes a while to get an improve in. My character still doesn't have Heal mastered, and I spent a while purposefully practicing it, and cast it all the time. |

At the risk of revealing a little IC info, I think the problem lies in the staves you are brandishing. Create food / water / cure light are low-level spells with no group affect (well, at least the cure light hits you and your pet, but that's all that you have). Grab a pair of rechargeables like a faerie fire and sleep staff and take it down to that same area. I imagine you'll see a marked improvement. |

Depends on the spell too. You can only recharge a spell you have access to if I remember correctly. |
