The fail ping says something like, Your spell of blindness appears to have no affect. It should read, Your spell of blindness appears to have no effect. Please to fix? |

If that's the proper grammar, there are a whole lot more places than that which say 'no affect'. Can I get a few more agreements from the grammar nazis? Even when I look this up on dictionary.com, I'm still confused on which version to use where. |

http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/af ... ffect.aspx Affect is a verb. Effect is a noun. Here, the spell of blindness has no (noun) effect, is correct. You could say the spell of blindness does not affect whomever, and that would be correct. |

If you google 'no affect' it says did you mean 'no effect', that might be telling you something. |

I dont think its a hard and true on that one Jpip. Effect can be used as a verb in some instances. To effect a change or to make something happen. As for Darktemplars statement... uh I think he is right. If the structure was changed to like your spell has not affected so and so, affect could be used. |

Ask cannibal. http://public.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/affect.html I think is more concise. Also it seems to argue for effect. Also I think the one posted before this has an error since it says effect cannot be used after the word "an" and other articles but other places I have looked seem to indicate it can. |

I never said that they couldnt be use in those ways. You however seem determined to ignore other uses for each word. Why is that? |

I'm just throwing out any and all sources to help Dulrik and OP out. You've already stated you believe OP is correct as well. We're on the same team there. I'm not completely ignoring them...well, okay I am, because the other uses aren't what we're trying to figure out here. Both of my posts are relevant to OP's post. Whether or not the way that my links say to use affect and effect cover all the ways of their use doesn't matter. They are correct in this context. You can reply if you want, but I've made my point, and it is completely valid, and thus, I've nothing more to say on the matter. |
