I get the feeling this is quite an old bug, but definitely a bug none-the-less.

I had been exploring said underwater city a little today, popping in and out through the underwater rooms to enter them.
When this happened.

Before the Gate
Jutting out from a nearby cliffside, a single road continues on toward a
dimly lit horizon. Towering pillars, one on each side of the road, are
connected by a broad archway that marks the entrance. Two, fierce statues
of muscular meremen stand in front of the pillars, eyeing those who pass by.
The encompassing shell that protects this part of the city looms high above,
and only a passing flicker radiates the pure blackness of the sky. Orbs are
the only thing that lights the way into the rest of the city.
Obvious exits: w water
(Dark Aura) A half-elf sulks here, her back bruised and raw.

A Friend exits out of an opening in the shell.
One of your members has left the party.


So I assumed after it left the party it was unconscious and about to die like anything else would, so I left it there.
A few minutes later I recall..

A Circle of Stones
Tall trees with silvery bark encircle this small clearing
frp like slender, still guards. Verdant, soft-looking grass as high

canopy overhead, and a warm, steady breeze dances along through

hangs in the sky. It's mostly clear, mild, and calm.

A set of rune-inscribed stones frame the center of the clearing here.
A xandu appears in the room.

Thick fur gleams along its limbs, tufting thickly about its five-toed
feet. The beast is pearl-gray in coloring for the most part, but a mane of
thick white hair adorns its chest and shoulders, and small white tufts mark
the points of its ears. Its head is slender and pointed, its large eyes
positioned in a manner that take in danger and safety. The horns are long
and protrude from the head far enough to serve as dangerous weapons if
needed.
Overall, a xandu is in awful condition.

Ok.



I can gather two problems here.
One, the drowning code doesn't reset for pets (possibly all NPCs?) once you have left the underwater room.
And two, the drowning code doesn't affect said pets while you are not in the room with them.

It works the same way if you drop a pet over lava if you leave the room the pet stops taking damage and as soon as you quaff a word vial it appears at the stones with you.
