No doubt your character is left-handed. This bug wad already discussed in the "three different bugs thread" and claimed fixed for the next reboot.

It's funny how this bug is now being reported over and over again to me in the space of 24 hours now that it actually is a penalty as opposed to the many years where it functioned as a bonus... :-?

I'm pretty sure the "bonus" meant things like right-handed characters were getting 5 attacks something like 80% of the time and left-handed chararacters were getting 5 attacks 90% of the time. It's kind of absurd to expect the pbase to notice that difference, especially when reasonable people would assume handidness doesn't matter.

All of a sudden getting one attack per round instead of four is pretty noticeable, especially when the game is treating that attack as bare-handed even if you are wielding a halberd, meaning your attack isn't even going to do significant damage.

This game assigns me an unusually high amount of left-handed characters.

Your second line is what I have a question about. Are you saying that there is now a penalty to being left-handed and you cannot perform the same as a right-handed person?

While I did not run tests on the how things performed prior to fixing the bug, I believe it would have resulted in a right-handed character always getting one less attack per round than a left-handed character. You are correct, this isn't as noticeable as seeing 'punch' instead of your normal weapon message. But given how much people dissect log files, it seems strange that none of the veterans would have noticed.

Hey, we are only human too and cannot catch everything. If you'd supply us with the code, I am sure we could find more oowies. 8)

I don't actually want the code, I wouldn't know what to do with it.

I think because in practice this never happened, or just wasn't noticeable, and I think baldric has it right, nobody cared about handedness. It seemed aesthetic at best. My current character is left-handed, and I'm just waiting for this code fix to go through to make a decision about specialization.
