Shattered Kingdoms

The Bee Hive
  This gigantic, densely packed matrix of hexagonal cells is located in a
large hollow, deep within the trunk of the great tree and roughly oval in
shape.  The bark surrounding the hive's entrance is smoothened out and the
cavity's walls are coated in a thick, golden layer of hardened plant resin.
Honeycombs are attached to the "walls" along the cavity tops and sides, but
small passageways are left along the comb edges.  The basic nest
architecture allows honey to be stored in the upper part of the comb;
beneath rows of pollen-storage cells, worker-brood cells, and drone-brood
cells.  The sweet-smelling, sticky nectar drips from the ceiling and the
wax-covered walls, forming amber pools on the ground.
