I'm not sure why he is set up this way, but Arden doesn't have Empire tongue mastered, so it's not a problem on your end. I'd say the NPC is something that should be fixed, though.

It's also worth noting that when you are speaking a language that you've not mastered, your comprehension drops for other non-mastered languages as well.

In other words, if you switched to speaking your native tongue you'd actually understand him better than if you were speaking empire.

That doesn't sound right.

I agree with Dulrik. I have never experienced anything like that, Nightwing, and I'm curious as to how you came to that conclusion.

I third the notion of Nightwing not knowing what he's talking about in this case.

I think that's a very unique assumption to make, and a bit nonsensical besides.

Try it sometime.

If I speak Empire tongue (which I've mastered), to someone speaking Zhensh tongue (which they've mastered but I've not), my comprehension seems to only skew letters of words of size four or more, and generally only one per word. If, on the other hand, I switch over to Zhensh tongue (which I've not mastered), my comprehension actually drops, in that words of size three will skew, and more often multiple letters from the same word. The skew also seems to be more pronounced if both of us are speaking non-mastered tongues even if the other person has mastered it.

I always figured it was that my "mind' was busy thinking how to translate its own words to properly understand the speaker, or some sort of "feature" of the code.

Or, like you guys all say, maybe it's a purely incidental process I've reinforced in my own head through anecdotal evidence.

Code:
Me: Zhensh (mastered)
Him: Firmyrn (superb)
Him says 'I'll use this kanguage.'

You start to speak firmyrn tongue. (superb)
Him says 'cettdr than my Yiensh.'

You say 'Okay.'

Code:
Me (speaking Uxmaln: Very Good)
Him (speaking Uxmaln: Mastered)
Him says 'Svqf `re a lps of ypu these dayr.'

You start to speak taslamaran tongue. (mastered)

Him says 'There are many of us.'

You start to speak deep tongue. (very good)

Him says 'We are just nos shtuing in cavdt.'

The only easy examples I could pull out of a couple of old logs where I was switching languages frequently. No other factors (e.g., berserk) were in play, and the other speaker didn't change languages during the conversation.

If this actually happens, it should be a bug.
