Im looking at making a script that is a little questionable here is the process
Step 1 Check how many you have of X item (say 3)
Step 2 Check how many you want of X item (previously entered and assumed to be mostly static say 5)
Step 3 Do some action to attempt to make it so you have X items in your bags. For example buy X a number of times. (This case 2)
Step 4 repeat with Y item.

The user has one input and performs several actions however the actions are determined by returned input from the mud.
Expected use sorting herbs as a scout keeping detection vials topped off on a character when at a suitable shop.

I know if I made the alias a trigger that fired when I walked into a shop or couldnt carry any more herbs it would be against the rules but if I have to input the command is it suitable or not?

If your trigger is changing the alias for you, then that would be illegal. Client side triggers should be limited to highlighting information or presenting it in alternate windows (if desired).

In my opinion that means that if, as a result of a single input, your command not only looks at the amount you have, but also determines the number of things to buy without any extra manual input, then it would be illegal as that's basically automating your character.

A legal version of your script would be two commands: One that highlights or even prompts you how many "things" you need, and then another command that requires you to manually type the number of times to perform whatever action you want to perform.

The trigger changes a variable which is then used an a second alias.

I knew it was questionable which is why I asked on the forums. The desired outcome is make sure you dont have more of an item than you want. I guess there is another way I can perform a herb sorting alias for what I want which just involves inputting a lot of commands by dropping everything and just using the get X command for the exact numbers I want to keep in my bag. Just a lot more bruit force.

Step 1 throw all the herbs on the ground
Step 2 Pick up items one at a time and put them into a herb bag repeat X times (where X is previously entered).

Then the alias never changes and would be legal?

Same outcome just less elegant

Yeah, if it's not changing the alias based off of a trigger, I don't think that's against the rules.
